It never should have happened

Thread needs solution

Was going to upgrade to Windows 7 and therefore decided to also update my Acronis. Bought the 2010 version.

Day of upgrade made last backup under Vista using new Acronis backup. After upgrade set Acronis to continuous backup.

Last night decided, due to problem, to revert my active petition to previous time splice. Could not do it from Windows as, after restart, Acronis said could not read drive after restoral started.

Therefore did it from recovery boot disk. Process said complete.

Computer would not boot as boot manager missing. Windows could not self repair. Therefore had to resort from first complete Windows7 backup. This allowed computer to boot.

At this time found that a lot of saved mail in various folders of Thunderbird had never been backed up and therefore was irretrievably lost. Configuration of TBird also not right.

Desktop of course was wrong and that backup did not contain two new programs put on computer in last week. Therefore did a slice restore from early yesterday without doing partition method. New programs still not there as well as a new folder I had set up to hold installation files. Backup was inconsistant, to put it mildly.

Got programs back but can not install one of them as keeping registration info in TBird and that no gone.

Therefore, in summary:
1. Program completely failed to backup certain data even when doing an entire disk backup.
2. Slice restore did not restore computer to state at time of slice.

Anybody want to guess how happy I am with this product?

Probably very UNhappy -- I would guess.

I've found in general, that the less complicated I make the usage of ATI Home, the better it works.

So, I have decided NOT to use the Secure Zone or the Continuous Backup, and instead, just do image backups once a week on my own.

And, due to other problems (not Acronis related), I've had to restore my machine twice in the last two weeks -- and each time, it's worked great! First, with build 5055, then with build 6029.

It seems to take Acronis (like MS, unfortunately), a few builds to get a new feature working properly. So, the safest thing to do is keep with the proven, simple features.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

Gary,

Do you experience the issue with Nonstop backup only? Have you tried an image backup proposed by Mark? We should localize the issue.  We have released a new build of Acronis True Image Home 2010 build # 6053. Please log in to your account on our web site to download the installation file. You can learn more on how to download the latest build in this article. Update the program and see if the issue remains. You can recover the archive to a swapped drive if it is possible.

If the issue still persists, please let me know about it via Private Message, I will let you know on how to collect the diagnostic files.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Please let me know if the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question.

Thank you.
