Making a clone from USB disk to Portable disk only starts windows first time

Thread needs solution

Hello, I´ve tried to clone new disk installed on my portable from old portable disk (smaller) installed out, in a usb device.
I´ve done it both, using clone utility and making a complete disk backup. In both situations result is the same. When clonning or back up activity finish I selct shoot down PC.
I disconnec USB device and start windows with the new and recently disk cloned.
Everithing is ok and Windows run normally untill I shoot down the computer. Afther that system doesn´t start anymore.
It seems a problem related to MBR but any utility recognizes the disk anymore until I format it again.

Tanks in advance.

If I understand correctly, you start the computer only with the cloned disk connected and it starts correctly, but when you shut it down, it doesn't start any longer?

What does it do the second time you start the computer? How far the boot process goes? Do you see Windows booting?

Greetings,

I can't tell from your description if you are using USB and a dock or what you are referring to as "portable". In any case, I would suggest that you make a full disk image of the booting disk that you wish to restore elsewhere. Restore that image and attempt to start your machine. Restoring a complete disk image to a larger or smaller disk is pretty straight forward.   If you are using a non-conventional method unexpected behavior may result. One of Grover H's helpful guides might help with this.
