Making mods to OneClick backup

Thread needs solution

Hi folks,

I installed TI Home 2009 yesterday and ran the One-Click backup option.   I scheduled backups to occur every week, but now I'm curious if these will be full system backups, i.e., will take hours?  If the answer is 'yes', then is it possible to edit the task and change 'full' to 'differential', or must I create a new, differential backup task?  If the latter, must I run another full backup or will it recognize my existing full backup?

thanks,

Terry

I am backing up my internal HD (about 20GB) to an external USB HD.  I use the rescue CD to do only FULL, weekly backups manually (no schedule).  It takes about 25 minutes for the backup and about 8 additional minutes to validate the backup.  This may give you a basis for comparing your what your time frame might be.

Thanks dh27564,

I have the log from the first OneClick backup, so I the duration of the job is no mystery.  Are you saying that once a scheduled backup task it cannot be modified?

I don't use One Click Protection or Scheduled Backups however, Paragraph 4.1 of the Acronis Users Manual says, "The Acronis One-Click Protection tool performs only FULL backups of the system volume; scheduling an incremental or differential backup is not possible".   This would indicate to me that editing a One-Click Protection schedule to anything but FULL is not possible.

You can certainly set up a NEW scheduled task to perform backups.  As far as changing that scheduled task from FULL to incremental or differential, you can edit the task and make those changes.  However, whether it's prudent to do that after creating your first FULL backup, I'm not sure.  Others will jump in here and help you with this.  Having not used this feature, I'd be reluctant say one way or the other.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.  What I learned was that I could modify some aspects of the OneClick task, including the schedule and encryption options, but not the backup type itself.  That has to stay at FULL.  What I've done to get a quicker weekly system backup is create a new Differential Backup that runs weekly and reduced the frequency of my original One-Click task to monthly.  Could be overkill I suppose, since there will be two full system backups, but we'll see how it goes.

Thanks again, dh27564
