"Manual" Backup Version Chain Creation

Thread needs solution

I am using the Incremental scheme with Incremental backup types in creating a "manual" backup chain - one in which I manually start each backup because neither my computer or external drive is on all the time. I have created the first file backup. This was a full backup. The next backup in the chain should be an incremental backup from the full backup just created. What do I click on to make incremental backups in this chain? Do I select the backup in the main panel and click on "Back up now" to create the next incremental backup?

If you have a "Backup Now" option, by clicking that option, the next backup will be created. What type backup you get will be determined by the options you have previous included in the the task.

If you selected the Incremental backup scheme, and the full has been created, then the next backup created should be an incremental. If you have the task as a scheduled task, the next time the schedule runs, the next backup should be an incremental.

Which version of True Image are you using?

Here is one example on how to set up to have a custom backup scheme to have full backup plus 6 incrementals before the next chain begins with another full backup. Change the 6  and/or 4 to fit your needs.

I'm using ATIH 2012.

On the Backup scheme page, I've set the scheme to Incremental, the Backup method to Incremental, and set the "Create only incremental versions after the initial full version" radio button. Also, I have not scheduled any backups - I do them all manually. I may start using the above scheme when I get a larger external drive, but for now, I just run one backup at a time. My question is, "What do I click on to get the next backup in this chain, in accordance with my Backup scheme?"

When I start ATIH 2012 and choose File backup, I see a screen with all my backups listed. Should I interpret each of those backup items as chains, where clicking on the "Backup Now" button at the upper right corner will initiate the next backup in the chain, in my case, an incremental backup? I think that's what you said above but I just want to make sure I'm doing it the way Acronis intends.

All my instructions have related to the backup of disks and partitions. I do not need or use File backups as the backup of my files are included in the daily backup of my entire disk. If you are not doing some disk and partition backups, this is something you need to do if you want to be able to recover your system to a new disk. All partitions should be included in the backup.

Your tasks should have easily identifiable names. Rather than click on "backup now" option, you can create a desktop shortcut and run your backups by clicking on the shortcut rather than backup now. To create a shortcut, choose the correct task and right click on the Edit Backup properties. Then choose the option to "create desktop shortcut" which will place the proper shortcut on your desktop.

When you open TrueImageHome, sometimes more tasks are listed than active and only you will know which ones you need.  Any extra tasks can be removed from the listing by right clicking on edit backup settings and choose the remove from list option.

Maybe these two examples will help.
