Many thanks

Thread needs solution

I just wanted to thank those that responded to my questions two months ago as I struggled to get my ATI 2014 setup for the first time. As a result of the help, especially GroverH, I was able to setup ATI 2014 to backup my RAID 10 (1+0 if you prefer) computer drives. My RAID is protected from drive failure, but not onsite catastrophe (e.g., fire, water), so I decided to take one relatively cheap and fast risk reduction step and rotate backups offsite.

I rotate through two external USB 3.0 drives. I keep one plugged in and the other offsite. ATI 2014 automatically runs every night rotating between a Full backup and six Differential backups. I use two nearly identical configurations, Red and Blue - conveniently named for the Red and Blue drives. I can turn off one configuration, remove that drive, add the other drive, then turn on the other configuration, and everything works.

Just today, I used that exact same configuration to backup my laptop, although I only periodically and manually back it up to a different, single, external drive, which is kept in a fire safe.

I have years of backup experience for work, but applying that to ATI 2014 was new. If you have questions, please look at the following two forum topics or give me a jingle.

Thanks again,
Dave

Am glad you got it working.

I can turn off one configuration, remove that drive, add the other drive, then turn on the other configuration, and everything works.

If interested, after the holidays, I believe we can reduce the number of steps. Such as:

Optional: use Windows scheduler to display a switch disk reminder messasge, and perhaps even which disk to attach if the switch dates are consistent.

1. Change both backup tasks inside TI to "do not schedule"

2. Change scheduling from TI to Windows Scheduler.

3. Have Windows Scheduler run a nightly batch file.

4. Have batch file determine which disk is attached--red or blue.
Based on whether it finds the blue or the red,
run either the red or blue backup script.
"C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageLauncher.exe" /script:A08C9DCC-EA95-4EF7-A34B-722EA3E3C43E
"C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageLauncher.exe" /script:A08C9DCC-EA95-4EF7-A34B-722EA3E3xxxx
(note: this script infomation found inside the each task edit options to create a backup shortcut)

5. This link gave me the idea for the above.

6. If you wanted the full to occur on a specific day of the week or month, we could use Chain2Gen to achieve that via the TI pre command plus change the backup scheme to plain incremental. If interested in this specific option, review Chain2Gen link 1, index item 5-A.

Edit:
7. What drive letter do you have assigned to Red and which drive letter assigned to Blue?
