Message W00100021 at Windows 8.1 startup after removing True Image

Thread needs solution

Hello everyone,
after removing Acronis True Image 2015, I receive this message during Windows 8.1 boot process:

W00100021: Conteggio dei volumi del gestore di snapshot non riuscito.

(The error is in Italian).

The system boots normally, but I need to know what I have to do to remove this message that lasts some seconds on the screen during bootup.

I've tried to search it on search engines, but I've only received a result from a Korean site that, even with an automatic translation, is very difficoult, for me, to understand. I've only understood that they talk about Acronis True Image 2015.

What I have to do?
Someone can help me, please?

The build of Acronis True Image is #6525.

Regards,
ghale

Update:
I've reinstalled the trial version of Acronis True Image and... the message disappeared.

I'm going to remove it again, hoping that the message will not appear again.

WTH!
After the removal of Acronis True Image 2015, after the boot I receive the message TWICE!!! Argh!!!

Someone can help me, please?

Take a look at this KB Article on removing TI2015. Look for the Cleanup Utility link. Run that utility and report back.

Hello and thanks for the reply.
Before removing Acronis True Image 2015, I've deactivated Acronis Startup Recovery Manager.
Then, I've removed it via Start -> Control Panel -> Program and Features

Then,
I've runned the Cleanup utility, I've not rebooted my PC and I've checked in my registry that:

a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters
b. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters

don't contain snapman*, fltsrv, tdrpman*, vidsflt*, timounter strings
My registry keys are attached to this post in the zipfile.

I've rebooted my PC and no changes: I see the two messages.

Any help, please?
Regards,
ghale

Hi
I have exactly the same issue.

The cleanup as discussed above is not effective in removing the error message at boot up.

Hello Everyone!

Enchantech, thank you for helping!

ghale, BrG, could you please post photos of the error message you get? Are there any related messages in Windows Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)?

Thank you.

Hello Anna,
because there is no way to take a screenshot of the screen, I've done a photo with my smartphone.

For the Windows Event Viever, there is a way to send a limited dump of it?

ghale

Thank you, ghale!

1) please export Windows Event Logs as it is described here and them to me in a private message.

2) have you activated Acronis Startup Recovery Manager

3) on which stage of boot up process the error message appears?

Thank you.

Error message is 2 seconds into boot up after initial HP splash screen. I have this as a .mov file which you dont allow to download.

Message reads on black screen background W00100021 : Failed to count snapshot manager volumes.

Event viewer show 1 error event with no warning events at boot up.

Herewith error event:

Sorry should have clearly said the only notable event at start up was a warning event as detailed above. There were no error events.

Hi
I have run scannow and chkdsk on O/S drive with no errors.

I have latest HP printer software and driver installed.

This fault only ocurred DIRECTLY after Acronis 2015 uninstall.

I get this message as well after uninstalling ATI 2015. I found a number of left behind items in the registry - clearly the uninstall code is poor to do this. The clean up utility didn't fix what the uninstall process should have done correctly in the first place. Booo!

What happened to the OP has happened to me and the cleanup utility did not help and struggling with support to fix this issue.

Same problem as well. This is becoming more trouble than it's worth. I've been using Acronis products for 8 years, but we may be parting ways soon.

Here are the latest instructions for using the cleanup utility with TI 2015. There is also a link provided to download the utility. BE ADVISED - Please follow the instructions to the letter. There are a number of steps needed to complete to insure success. If you leave one out or perform one incorrectly then you will probably be unsuccessful!

BRG,

This may not help the W00100021 error but your error with WudfRd may be resolved by doing the following:

WUDFRd is a service and it is called "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework".
Using Windows Search find and open Services.msc.
Look through the list for "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework"
This service by default is set to Manual Start, change this to Automatic Start.

That should solve your problem with that error.

beetle,

This don't work how?

The cleanup as discussed above is not effective in removing the error message at boot up.

The only way I was able to remove the error message at boot was to reinstall Acronis. This was after messing around with Acronis tech support unsuccessfully. I hate error messages so I paid the price to get rid of it. Grrrrr

My question here to the posters of this thread is, did you follow all the steps in the registry edit portion of the cleanup instructions? If yes are you certain you did not delete the keys mentioned in the cleanup article?

Did I follow all the steps .................Yes
Am I certain I did not delete the keys mentioned in the cleanup article...................Yes
Dis I filed any of the items mentioned.............................None

Sorry,,,,,,,,,,,,,Last comment shud read

Did I find any of the items that should be deleted in the registry,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,none

BRG,

Did you try my suggestion in post #24? Your error indicates that your USB device driver failed to load properly. In addition to that suggestion I recommend that you visit your PC manufacturer support site and download and install the latest USB driver files for your PC.

In your posts that describe the error messages you get, the USB device that did not load is an HP Photosmart printer. Is that device attached to your PC?

The other error is that of a snapshot error. This one is much harder to diagnose and may prove unsolvable. I presume you are using True Image 2015 since you posted in this Forum. It is my understanding that the 2015 version uses Windows VSS (Volume Shadow copy Service) and the Windows VSS Writer for snapshot management. I am attaching a link I recently found that discusses a number of ways to diagnose and fix VSS errors. Be advised that some of these procedures are not something the average user should do while some are fine for the average user to perform. Having said that you are advised that if you perform any of these procedures you do so at your own risk.

For all those being affected by this. The solution has been posted by invisible boss in post 20

Neither the regular deinstallation nor the cleanup utility (as of this time) remove the following line from the BootExecute string, thus causing the message to appear on every boot:

auto_reactivate \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume2\EFI\Acronis\bootwiz.efi

Either remove this line manually or restore it to the default Windows value by running the attached reg file. Remove the .txt extension before.

I can't run the attached reg file... when I type acronis_bootexecute-restore.reg. it's this forum page which opens again and and again and no file to run?

I solved this issue on my Windows 10 system.

Go to the following registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager]\BootExecute

Delete all references to Acronis in this key.  DO NOT delete the autocheck autochk * entry.

Reboot your system and the problem will be gone!

Angelo, thank you very much for posting your solution!

Dear forum members, if the solution was helpful for you, please reply to this post with results.

This seems to have worked for me. I chip in only because I was thrown by the registry key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager]\BootExecute

Look for

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute

When you get there, don't expect to see anything that is obviously Acronis. In my key there was just one more line beneath autocheck autochk * . Deleting that extra line squashed the annoying message.
