Mounting a backup (TIB) results in an hang up

Thread needs solution

Hi form,

just set up TIH2012 latest Build 6154 on my Windows 7 pro 64-Bit machine.

When I try to mount a TIB file, in read only or read write mode, the
"choose drive letter" dialogue appears, after that Acronis tries
to mount the TIB, but the computer slows down, and doesn't
respond any longer.

The machine isn't able still to start an command prompt or the task manager than.
The only thing you can do is cold boot.

Attached a screenshot of the last action, where the application hangs. It's in german, because I've installed the german version.

Kind regards,

Chris

ATIH 2012 build 6131 on Win7 Home Premium SP1 x64

I experience the same problem. Sometimes the first mount of a small image works, unmount, and then the second mount hangs the program and system as described above by Christo. Only a cold boot works for restarting the computer.

ATIH 2012 build 6151 Spanish with Plus Pack. Windows 7 x64.

Same problem for me. When trying to mount the image, the computer slows down. I have to restart the system from case "reset" button.

Regards.

Vic.

For those of you having issues with the mount function, one thing I have found was that my Anti Virus (eSet) was interfering.

With the Anti-Virus in normal activated, Acronis was successful in assigning the letters but nothing worked after that and no mounted images.

If I turned off the AV for a few minutes, then Acroinis would be successful in mounting and I could access the mount without any issues.

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, and I tried to disable it before mounting the image, but the computer slows down again.

GroverH pointed out the problem with an interferring antivirus programme.

I can confirm that using ATIH 2012 build 6131 (latest) on a Win7 Home Premium SP1 x64 (latest update) machine with ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5.0.95.0 (latest) mounting a backup does not work and causes Windows to freeze.

The first trial using ATIH 2012 Mount Image while the AV was disabled worked fine. However, I had only turned off the AV for 10 minutes, which might have been the cause of Windows freezing when I mounted the third backup in a row.

/Lars

Same behaviour.
ATIH 2012 (build 6151) W7 pro 64 bit + AV Norton Internet Security 2012.
ATIH freezes on the dialogue window "choose drive letter"

Do any of the above posters have the free Acronis Disk Manager installed as well? I have noticed recently that this seems to be making itself known, mainly by temporary freezing web browsers and mouse/keyboard activities whilst updating logs. Whilst not quite the same, it's possible as ADM hasn't been updated in a very long time, that some changes via Windows Updates have caused something in ADM and TIH (together) to break.

I have not used the free Acronis Disk Manager, only the ATIH 2012 full commercial version without any previous ATIH installs. However, recently I installed a Seagate Barracuda 3TB disk. To make it become recognized by the system (W7 x64), I had to format the disk using a free Seagate download called DiscWizard.

http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/218619en
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/beyond-2tb/

At that time ATIH 2012 was not installed on the system. The file I installed was Seagate "DiscWizardSetup-14387.en.exe". When I look in the file properties it is stated "Digital Signature Information: Acronis, Inc. Timestamp: ‎June 30 2011 13:14:33. Copyright (c) Acronis, 2000-2011. Product and file version: 13.0.0.14387". Thus, Seagate DiscWizard seems to be an Acronis disk management product.

The DiscWizard did the job, and also had some (rudimentary) disk backup options. While trying to run the DiscWizard bakup I got a notice (if I remember correctly) that ATIH 2012 was available at a discounted price. I bought ATIH 2012. When I installed ATIH 2012 the Seagate DiscWizard was uninstalled. Maybe ADM and Seagate DiscWizard are similar products? If the problem is caused by the previously uninstalled Seagate DiscWizard, it seems the (automatic?) uninstall was incomplete.

[The reason I choose ATIH 2012 was that I gave up on Symantec's Norton Ghost 15, because it could not handle the 3TB disk and its partitions, and no updated version has been available in a long while.]

No I haven't

@Lars,

Seagate DiskWizard is based upon TIH 2009, Seagate have added their own bits and pieces but the actual imaging function is Acronis. Sometimes the actual Acronis product and the 3rd party compilation don't play nicely with each other.

Did you buy the upgrade version or full version of 2012? Your problem if you purchased the upgrade is that if the installation of TIH 2012 didn't overwrite some of the DW files properly, you can't, or more accurately shouldn't, uninstall 2012, run the Acronis Cleaner software and re-install as 2012 will expect a full serial number to be available in order to put the upgrade one in and you won't have access to the DW serial number as it is embedded in the install.

@Lars and Andrea,

What type of PC do you have, Dell by any chance? If the AV software is temporarily disabled (from Services.msc and MSConfig, and rebooted in that state) does TIH behave itself? Make sure you have either removed your router/modem cable from the PC or disabled the network card in Network and Sharing, so you have no network connection whilst trying that out.

Have either of you tried a repair install of 2012, which may solve the problem if the virtual disk driver is clashing with something.

what version of SNAPAPI is on your systems?

@ Colin,

I purchased the full version of TIH 2012, I think, since Acronis provided me with a full serial number. On the other hand, I seem to remember that to install ATIH 2012 it needed DiscWizard to be present on the system. [After the mounting froze the system, I uninstalled TIH but could reinstall it unless I first reinstalled the DW. DW was uninstalled when I installed TIH the first time.] Thus, maybe it was after all a TIH 2012 upgrade I purchased.

The PC is an HP HPE-030sc from 2010.
I'll try out running TIH while temporarily disabling the AV.
I have tried repair install of TIH 2012 several times.

system32\DRIVERS\snapman.sys file version 3.12.0.640
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\SnapAPI\snapapi.dll file version 3.12.0.640
system32\snapapi.dll - not found

Hello all,

Thank you for your comments, and for reporting about the issue.

Our Development team is aware of the issue with the ESET, it's currently being fixed by the Development team. Still this issue was never reproduced with Kaspersky, so we need to investigate the problem.

Vic, could you please send us full memory dump from Windows

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you.

I also tried mounting an image several times now with the same result--computer totally freezes and the only way out is to hit the power button. I am running WinXP Pro and the latest build of TI2012 and am on a company network where they have Kaspersky Antivirus 6 for Workstations (which I cannot disable).

Has anyone found a solution or is this an unresolved bug?

Doug
