Moving to a larger SSD

Thread needs solution

I have a W7-64 system using a 120GB Toshiba SSD as the boot drive. This drive is getting full, so I bought a Crucial M500 480GB SSD. At first, I cloned my laptop HDD to the new SSD using Acronis in the W7-64 system. That worked fine. The 480GB SSD was in my laptop for a few weeks, but I then changed my mind, and decided to move the system from the 120GB SSD to the 480GB SSD, and going back to the HDD for the laptop.

The 480GB SSD is formatted, using NTFS and MBR partitioning. The drive works fine in the W7-64 system as a data drive. But now, when I try to clone the 120GB SSD to the 480GB SSD using Acronis, the 480GB SSD is greyed out as "not supported" as the destination.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All good things,

Rodzu

How is the destination disk (480 SSD) attached to the machine you are using? If you are attempting this using your laptop be advised that the destination disk needs to be installed internally within the laptop and the source disk needs to be attached by some other means. There have been a number of users whom have had your same issue when attempting to clone with drives attached via USB and some have solved the issue by using a different drive enclosure or even a different USB port on the machine. Often times USB enclosures cause this issue.
