NAS backup and restore

Thread needs solution

I am using the full licensed version of Acronis TrueImage 2015 (3 Computer Pack).

I intend to buy a Synology NAS device to back up from 2 Windows 8.1 computers.

I understand that there are issues of data (partition) recovery from NAS devices for example on the event of HDD crash / replacement the NAS device is not recognized for restore with the recovery disk created by TI 2015.

What NAS devices are supported by TI 2015 if any.

Your questions are not easily answered. There is no official list of NAS devices supported by Acronis TI 2015. In general the application supports network attached devices. Having said that users may need to tweak things to get things working. Generally speaking a good portion of home networks have issues of some sort and those issues can result in the application not working as intended. Most of the issues I see on these pages relate to either a device not being recognized or a credential issue. Unrecognized devices in most cases can be traced to issues with DNS being improperly configured. Credential issues are largely related to users not understanding what type of network they are on or which credential is being asked for when that issue arises.

Below is a link which describes the recommended steps to take in the case of a device not being recognized. It is being supplied for information purposes only and is intended to give you some idea of what procedures would be required to reasonably expect a resolution to such an issue.

Personally I run a custom built NAS I put together myself and have no issue with accessing it for backup or recovery. I attribute that to doing my homework before hand in insuring that my network was properly setup and client and server side permissions were setup correctly in the first place. My point being that if one takes the time necessary to setup things up right to begin with you probably will have minimal problems using an NAS with the Acronis TI 2015 application.

I have a Synology NAS where I store my backups. Unlike with WD MyCloud, I don't have any issues restoring from the NAS backups of any type using the recovery CD through a wired Ethernet connection. I have problems connecting to the NAS using the recovery disk wireless capabilities as it appears to not support DHCP correctly, therefore the computer finds itself on the wrong subnet.
