Need to get files off corrupt backup .tib file after OS reinstall and hard drive crash
I have two .tib files that I was able to backup on an external hard drive before my hard drive crashed. The files are about 33GB each but apparently they are corrupt according to Acronis True Image 11. I have move them to my internal drives and have tried to explore them, and mount the image but still corrupt. Is there any chance I will be able to recover certain files like my Outlook calendar and Thunderbird email files? I am a bit of a computer idiot so please speak slowly. Thanks.

I'm not sure that I am savy enought to answer the first question. I just asked it to run a backup of my C drive and I guess it didn't successfully make it all the way thru. Then I later asked it to try an incremental backup of C and that didn't run thru successfully. They both seem to have gotten hung up on the same file. They are both about 33GB. My entire C drive before crash was probably 70GB. I don't know if this helps. I am using True Image 11 Home. My OS is XP Pro. The .tib files are named GenEx Data Backup Acronis1.tib file size 33,562,624 KB and Backup GenEx Data Incrimental Acronis1.tib file size 33,058,816 KB. Thank you for trying to help me!!!

I followed the thread about cherry picking files off of a corrupt BUP and tried double clicking on my .tib files but I get this error:
An error occurred when opening the backup archive:
Cannot continue the operation due to either the backup is corrupted or it is used by another process, for example the backup has been mounted as a disk.

Do you remember selecting or seeing any files or folders when you created the backup? For an image backup, you would just be selecting the partition (C:, in this case). You would also only see the partition(s).
Do you have a log of the failed backup?
If it's correct that the backups never finished then I don't think you will be able to recover anything from them.

Yes I do remember that I selected several drives, at least C and G when I asked it to BUP. I'm not sure if I have a log, how would I know or where might it be?

The log would be available in TI if TI was run in Windows. There is no log if TI is run from the boot media. If TI was run from the drive that crashed, there probably won't be a log (I'm assuming you're already restored/reinstalled).

Yes, I am restored and installed. I did it the old fashioned way and not with the help of Acronis since I never really figured out how to use it. Acronis and probably all of its logs were on the C drive which crashed. A virus crashed it and I was able to make a backup of my C drive minus the system folder and oddly enough my Outlook calendar and Thunderbird email which the virus apparently selectively ate. So I do have my old Program Files folder that might have the log. Where might the log be?

They should be here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs

Got them, 24 .log files. Most are named with a date and time.

I think I had it set up to backup every Friday night probably for the past 20 Fridays or so. But it doesn't look like any were successful.

I believe I have a problem similar to the above poster.
I am using Acronis True Image 11 Home on my Dell PC running Windows XP professional.
I had been making weekly scheduled hard drive back ups (using incremental where appropriate).
I routinely examine the back up log after each run and have always seen the message 'operation successful,' although I never ran validations.
Recently I have been unable to boot my machine without getting a blue screen with a good bit of verbiage on it that I'm told means my hard drive has failed.
When I try to perform a restore (ideally of about 6 specific Microsoft Excel, Access or Word files from my 140 gig hard drive backup), I get the message 'the selected file is not a True Image Home archive' with every attempt to use either the Mount Image wizard or the Windows Mount approach. I'm told this means that the backup.tib files are regrettably all corrupted.
Is there any way to retrieve, restore or uncorrrupt these .tib backup files?
I would be most appreciative for any assistance or advice you can provide to me.
If there is any additional information that would be of help to you, please let me know.

Acronis advertises that they help iin recovery situations regardless of program age. Why not contactd them via support.
You must have your serial registerd and you must choose the "recovery option" on the support page.
