Need help in a backup/restore plan for True Image 2014
I apologize if this topic has already been covered. I'm installing TI 2014 on 2 new computers both of which run Win 7 64 bit. I'm trying to come up with a backup/restore plan that I can have confidence in. I had been using a different vendor's software and after going thru numerous backups I needed to do a restore and found out I had been doing the backups wrong & they were useless. I want to do a full backup of my operating system and a full back up of my data files (separate files for each) on a weekly basis. I would backup to external USB drives. I activated the F11 Recovery Manager and hope that I could use that to restore. I want to keep things simple, no cloud or other features and to be honest much of what is covered on this website is over my head. So my question is would the backup/restore plan I just described work okay, or is there a better way for a novice like me to do it? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

Hi Putts,
The signature link 2 and 3 below relate to 2012-2013 and 2014. Some of the pictures are old and some are newer versions but the principles relate to all versions.
Starting in link #2, the very first picture illustrates what I believe to be the best type of backup to perform--which is the "disk mode" or disk image backup.
The next few pictures shows where and how to assign custom storage folders and your own custom name (Acronis will still add their suffix).
You have to decide whether you will only do all full backups. If yes, then illustration 11-Full is applicable.
If you want to use full plus incremental, then illustration 11-Inc.
If you want to use full plus differential, then illustration 11-Dif. All 3 can be set to keep the number of backups your space permits.
The rules I practice is that I do NOT edit any of my tasks once they are used. If changes needed, I start over with a new task and cease to use or delete old task (no deletion of tib backup files). Changing a schedule can be done from the main menu, so the use of the edit settings option is not needed.
Do store your backups in several different disks (all originals) so if you loose a disk, you have others available for restore.
At some point, you will need to test your restore process. The only way that is possible is to an actual restore.
Signature link 3 below illustrates the restore process which is done when booted from the TI Recovery CD.
Item 3 inside that link 3 shows how to restsore DriveC only and item 5 shows examples of restoring or getting copes of individual files.
Good luck.

GroverH:
Thank you very much for your reply and the info. I have decided on doing full backups because I was burned in the past by doing incrementals only. I backup each computer to 2 different USB external drives. Thanks again for your reply. I really appreciate it.

Your welcome. Letter your two externals to letters such as X or Y or Z. A higher letter wll help to avoid a letter change by Windows when you insert a flash drive or camera.
My suggestion for a backup scheme is the 11-Full example but change the 4 to fit your storage needs.
Any deletion of any newer backups should be done via the program.
If you have some spare reading time, the links under my signature, may be of interest.
