Need help in getting the idea for Acronis product to buy

Thread needs solution

Dear Sir,
We have small retail business & we are using network of 4 computer including sql express on 1 along with 3 pos. we have 5 years old system in place & working fine smoothly on all windows xp.

Proper hardware & software upgrade is very costly for us at the moment so we are thinking to upgrade off market hardware only, for all 4 computers for the time being.

Would you please advise us that the Acronis True Image Premium would be good enough for migrating whole system to new hardware as i am not sure how pos software is installed in the old hardware & all data is hardcoded in the software (any small update in data like phone number change etc need new serial & they charge us hefty amount for it). we don't need to change anything except hardware as power supply is playing & had to install third-party hardware outside the box just to get the ball rolling.

Your guidance will be of great help for us. I am managing the system inc backups myself.

Thanks & Regards,
Ami

Are you intending to clone or use imaging?

True Image Premium would be able to do what you want, though it won't backup the SQL database separately, only as part of the complete disk image.

There may still be a problem depending on how the POS software activates the licence. You may find that it takes into account things such as the MAC or DISK signature to make sure it is on a valid machine.

I suggest you download the trial version of TI 2014 (I'm not sure if the trial now covers the premium version) and try making either an image or a clone to a new hard drive and see if your software is happy, though it would be in the same machine. If you have a spare machine it would be better to have this as the destination of your trial.

The SQL will possibly need to be stopped while making an image/clone as TI isn't designed for imaging databases while they are running. ABR11.5 is, so this might also be something worth looking at especially if you want to be able to centrally or remotely control your backups.
