New, formatted USB drive won't work as Target in Clone process.

Thread needs solution

New USB drive L is formatted and isn't accepted as valid for the target drive in Clone process.  I get this message below, but which 'special utility' is being referenced?  The new drive is 2Tb and source is 1Tb so size isn't the problem.  The Acronis graphic for the drive shows a RED X and an all Green stripe across its definition image.

The information for this drive: FS:None Partition:0x7 (NTFS, HPFS)  is probably significant but I don't understand.

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2010.  The source drive is internal and the new USB drive is external.  I have done cloning before with this installed Acronis and have been successful with the 2 drives being internal drives.

I am able to copy files to the USB drive just using Drag and Drop so I think the problem is just a disk qualifier that Acronis needs.  I am guessing that it's a partition issue, but I don't know what to do about it.

This is the message that comes up after starting the Clone operation.

------------------

Failed to move the selected data.  Make sure that your new hard drive is not smaller that your old one and your partitions do not contain errors.  You can check for the errors and correct them using a special utility.

The description of the Target disk is L:  1.819 TB FS:None Partition:0x7 (NTFS, HPFS)

Paul, welcome to these user forums.

Sorry but too little information to be able to start helping you.

What version / build of Acronis True Image are you using?
How are you attempting to perform the Clone operation, i.e. from within Windows or using the Acronis Rescue Media?
How are the two drives connected to your computer?

Please read post: 128231: [WARNING] CLONING - How NOT to do this!!! for some words of caution in performing cloning.

Steve, it appears that the problem is different logic sector sizes.  The source uses 512s and the target uses 4K.  I found the info in paper 45437.  Thanks for your help and I will think about what to do next.

Paul, cloning is not permitted for drives with different sector sizes but you can achieve the same result by doing a backup and restore instead, plus have the added protection of both the backup image for further use and also having the source drive removed from the system when doing the restore provided you use the Acronis Rescue Media to boot the computer.
