New full backup instead of incremental backup

Thread needs solution

I've defined the following file backup settings:
- daily backup
- incremental
- create a full version after 10 incremental versions
- delete version chains older than 7 days

My last full version run on May 1, 2012. Yesterday Acronis produced ...backup5.tib. Today, however, it produced a new full backup ...backup(1).tib although I expected an incremental ...backup6.tib.

What went wrong?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Peter,

Welcome. Any chance the task was ever edited?

Many users have reported better success when choosing the option to keep X number of recent chains rather than using the options based on elapsed dates or remaining space.

My suggestion would be to create a new task and point the new task to an empty sub-folder--such as  within your normal backup folder. I would also encourage you to keep more than 1 recent version chain so you have more choices in time if you should need to recover a file or the whole backup. Keep as many backups as space permits.

Change the 6 and 4  in this example to meet your needs.

known issue reported in 2012 beta and u1 beta. explanation from tech support -- sometimes thi 'looses track' of its database and defaults to full. more likely seen with nas targets. with final u1, the issue got a bit better, but still occurs from time to time.

Many thanks to GroverH and hhansard for their comments and suggestions. It's always good to hear that it is not my own fault ... I'll try Grover's circumvention until the program will be fixed.

Using True Image 2018 and the same thing still happens! Can't do a full backup on schedule as the data set is 5tb+ going to an 8tb destination.

Can't believe this issue goes back this far and is still happening!

Ken, please see my reply in the ATI 2018 Forum topic you also made the comment for.
