Newbie lost and could use some help.

Thread needs solution

I have just purchased and installed True Image Home 2011 but not sure it will do for what I seek. Maybe it does and I just don't understand it.

I want to make a mirror image of everything on my laptop, (System, programs, data) and have the back up updated daily.
Then i want to be able to restore if anything happens to this computer.
I am using a new Seagate Free Agent GoFlex 1TB

Where are the settings or how do I configure the software?
Thanks everyone

Bobby,

When you say you want a to mirror everything on your laptop, do you want to just plug in a drive with a copy of the contents of your current drive, or have a copy of everything that you can restore to your current drive or another drive if the current drive blows up?

The very first thing to do before you go any further is to make a recovery CD - you need to know now that the recovery environment can see all your hard drives and your keyboard and mouse (if wireless) work.

1. Start up TIH.

2. If you get the welcome screen, click on - Go to main screen

3. Click on Create Bootable Media - follow instructions - boot from CD 9make sure your system has booting from CD/DVD drive as the first option in your BIOS) make sure it will boot to the True Image Screen and that your mouse and keyboard work.

4. Exit out of the Rescue Media and select continue to Windows - remove the CD once booted.

5. Get ready to make your first task and image.

5a. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer give all your drives/partitions labels - this make it easier to know which disk is what when using the recovery CD, as Linux assigns drive letters differently to Windows, so drive C: in Windows may be drive E:\ in Linux, names don't change.

6. Attach your Seagate drive make sure Windows has recognised it.

7. Open up TIH 2011 and again go to the main screen.

8. Click on Disk and Partition backup.

9. You will see a list of drives and or partitions that are on your system.

10. If you only have one drive and you are running Vista or W7 you may see two partitions listed, one will be System Reserved the other C:\ tick both of these. If you are using XP or have upgraded from XP you will probably only see one partition marked C:\

11. Click on Destination and find your Seagate drive.

12. For the moment click on Version Chain next to the Backup Scheme text. Select the default scheme

13. Give the backup a meaningful name.

14. Click on Turn on schedule - select the default Daily option and wchange the start time to whenever you want the task to run.

15. Click on the down arrow on the right hand side of Advanced Settings in the schedule and tick Missed Backup Run at system startup.

16. Click OK

17. Click on Backup now

True Image should do the rest, once the image has been completed, this time right click on the task which will now be displayed on the main screen and select Validate - validation will take much longer than imaging.

If all is OK, close True Image down from now on it will run automatically.

Later on you can auto include validation of your tasks(s).

Any questions, read the user guide from the help menu or download the PDF version and if that still leaves you puzzled post further questions in the True Image Home forum or review Grovers list of items in the TIH forum.
