No hard drives detected during restore

Using Win XP Pro SP3; ATI 8.0

I attempted to restore my C drive from a backed up image. The manual recommends doing this from Windows unless the OS doesn't load. Mine does load, so I started the procedure from Windows.

After I specified the source and target drives, ATI reported that the target was in use and recommended a reboot which I did. On reboot, ATI displayed its startup screen which meant I had to start from the beginning again. When I clicked the Restore button ATI displayed an error message that no hard drives were detected!

There were three physical drives available, two on my PC and an external where the image is located.

How am I to restore if ATI can find neither a drive to restore to nor one to restore from?
