Not deleting oldest backup when drive is full

Thread needs solution

I have TI2013 set to do a full backup every 30 days and differential backups daily. My backup drive got full before the 30 day and I got a message when the scheduled backup ran:

"You must make this decision in 10 minutes or the operation will fail."

When I click on the message I get another message saying:

"You must free additional disk space to continue. You can either empty the Recycle Bin or delete old data files. To specify another location Click Browse."

Under settings > Backup Scheme > Advanced > Error Handling, I have "When not enough space in ASZ, delete the oldest backup" and "Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent mode)" unchecked.

It appears to be ignoring these settings. Why does it not delete some of the older differential backup? As it stands, all subsequent daily backups fail with status "The last backup was cenceled by timeout." So, I have no backups since the disk got full. I need an automatic way to solve this problem because I have TI2013 running on a dozen or more workstations in our office and I cannot check each one daily to see if the backup drive is full; nor can I ask the workstation user to do this (for one thing, the backup runs after hours so they'll never see the message).

What can I do to fix this?

Chuck,

Are you backing up to the ASZ? It doesn't look like...

So, you have to set up ATI to do a new full backup after Y differentials, and to keep only X most recent chains.

Since Acronis True IMage will try to do new full backup before deleting any existing, older backup chain, you need to make sure you have enough space for X+1 fulls and X times Y differentials, plus some margin.

In your case you have N computers, so you will need space for N times (X+1) plus N times X time Y differentials.

I understand that it is hard to predict the size of backups and differentials, so give yourself plenty of margin space.
