Not sure 1st incremental bu of files and folders worked like it should have
I'm running Acronis True Image 2015, build 6525, with Windows 7 home premium and firefox latest edition.
I did install it successfully last week and I did make an "entire PC" backup a few days ago. It is about 53.91 GB or so. I put it on a Toshiba USB external drive I have plugged into a rear USB port.
Today, I tried to add a new backup. I tried to make it a "files and folders" BU and I tried making it incremental. I also chose the Toshiba USB drive, and let it run. After about 10 minutes of whirring, it showed "approx time remaining about 6 min" and it had processed about 20 GB. The whole "entire PC" backup was only 53.91 GB!
I walked away and came back half an hour later. It was still whizzing and whirring! As I sat there, it got to 31 GB processed and "less than 1 min remaining". It continued to add GB processed until it got over 50 GB, all while showing "less than 1 min remaining". I gave up and I canceled it completely.
Now, moments ago, I went back and tried again. After clicking MyBackup, it whizzed and whirred under "files and folders" trying to define the source. It finally decided that it has to back up 79.24 GB! That's more than the "entire PC" backup I made when I first installed ATI!
This doesn't pass a sanity check with me at all. In fact, since making the "entire PC" BU a few days ago, I've hardly used the machine at all except to read email and work on one Excel file. My wife also uses it, and probably has worked on more email than I have but not much.
It's very hard for me to understand why ATI would whirr as long as it did without finishing, and espeically why it would need to back up incrementally more than 50 GB of "changed since last full BU" files.
Can someone please explain what it's doing and why it's doing it correctly?
Thx.

According to ATI, when I click files and folders and try to make it an incremental backup, it determines that it needs to back up approx 79.22 GB. That's larger than the 56.5 GB in the entire PC backup file it created! ATI currently shows the entire C:/ has about 82.3 GB on it. Does the est size of the incremental files and folders only backup it wants to create make any sense at all?

Tom, again, I'm no expert- but, when you first said you wanted to do a files and folder backup- I presume you had chosen specific files and folders? If so, what is the size of those as measured by your operating system? Then, when you run ATI, you picked just those? Or were you trying to do a files and folders backup of your entire hard drive? (which I believe won't backup critical system files).
I make images of the entire drive- but also make more focused files and folder backups- for example, of just my MS Office documents or just my photos- those backups are relatively small- those backups I create as incrementals when the need arises.
so, if what you're doing is trying to make an backup of files and folders for the entire drive- I suggest that's not a good strategy
