Online Backup and Network Drive

Thread needs solution

I just purchased online backup to back up a network drive. The network drive, however, does not display when searching with the online backup utility. How can I remedy this so that the service will be of use to me. I'd also like to add that clicking the link to live chat via support, as well as send a request via web form did not work. Jonathan

Same problem here. Tried installing to server but doesn't like that either. Online chat doesn't work, only form that does is feedback.

Andy

I don't think OLB is designed to image a network drive, but I might be wrong.

OLB is meant to be used to backup to an Acronis provided Server, not to back up to a general network.

You should be able to use Non Stop Backup to backup to a NAS etc. However this won't back up to online services.

Hi Colin
I think you misundertsood both posts, we are trying to backup from a network drive to the Acronis server. It simply does nothing. however since that, nothing backs up anyway, I'm not sure Acronis are ready for this service by the number of similar posts I've read.

Thanks
Andy

According to the FAQ (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/online-backup/faq.html#fa…) Acronis Online Backup is not intended to support network drives.
That makes it completely useless for me, since I store all my data on a NAS and not on a local harddrive anymore.
Fortunately there are a lot of competitors out there who support my needs.

Hello all!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread and share your concerns with us.

bodgy and Markus, thank you for your valuable comments.

I just would like to add that Acronis Online Backup was designed for backing up local hard drives to our storage, thus it will not allow you to backup from/to any network drive, even mapped in Windows - all the drives should be attached locally. I would advise you to take a look at the chapter 8 in the User's Guide and this article for more details.

I completely share your concern regarding this questions and be sure I will forward your feedback and comment to our Development team for them to take an actions on this.

Andy, Jonathan, I regret to know you couldn't reach support via chat and web submission and would like to assist you with this question. Could you please kindly specify whether you have tried to change the browser you are using? Also could you please tell me with what product specified do you try to enter the chat and leave a support submission?

I would appreciate if you could kindly share your concerns, feedback and questions with us - we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you!

Hello Yana Savchenko
If I am right, it is now one year ago since you have passed this request to the development team?
In my case, I have subscribed to online backup and I am really disappointed not to be able to backup the family data from the NAS device directly to your online backup. Please add this option as soon as possible!

It's old fasion to have data on local drives. Even families have now the possibility to buy for little money a network attached appliance providing all services like a small company.

For me, I found a workaround by setting up a iSCSI device on the NAS. As far as iSCSI is recognized as a local drive, Acronis online backup have access to it. But I have to synchronice data from the network share to the iSCSI device on all family members and it cuts additionally 250GB on my NAS.

In fact, what does it matter where the data come from? The service what I pay for ist the amount of data on the remote site, is it?
So please rethink this issue an make network drives availlabel for online backup.
The definition of HOME is no longer a standallone PC/Notebook!!!!
