Operations are in progress shutdown problem - Acronis please help!
I have ATIH 2015 (Build 6525) installed on a Windows 8.1 laptop (Core i7, 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD, 1TB Hybrid data disk).
Since installing ATIH 2015 on it I keep getting the dreaded "operations are in progress/computer will shutdown" message. The laptop then patiently awaits for those operations to finish but they never, ever do. This forces me to do a 'hard' shut down using the power button. Initially I though this irritating as no system files became corrupted but then yesterday an 'sfc /scannow check' showed that system files had been corrupted along with some backup files. Luckily I managed to restore an image with uncorrupted files.
The only way that I can successfully get round this (so far, as I've not done it that many times) is to kill every single Acronis service before shutting down. I even tried a custom 'KillAcronis.bat' file posted elsewhere on this forum but that didn't work all the time.
This is no longer even halfway acceptable. I've used Acronis TI for many years, ever since Norton bought out Drive Image and ruined it. I'm not someone who becomes hysterical when faced with the inevitable complexities of computers and threaten to go elsewhere; I try to solve things, especially as no-one gets it right all the time.
However (there had to be one).... I really can't have the integrity of my system at risk because of the vagaries of any program and will very reluctantly have to seek other solutions if this can't get fixed.
Any suggestions welcomed and Acronis please help!
Steve
(BTW, I like the new interface but would like to see validation automatically selected (default behaviour) before image restoration as I've lost installations in the past through not checking the validity of an image and using what turned out to be a corrupt image.)

Thanks for getting back. Are you suggesting this as a first stage in troubleshooting, a bit like reboot your router, or is this known to sometimes resolve this problem, which has plagued a number of people?
...are you suggesting using the cleanup utility straight off rather than the normal uninstall routine? Thanks again.

The link I provided mainly discusses the use of and provides the cleanup utility for a complete uninstall true. It also in the first few sentences describes how to uninstall the app using the built in uninstalled or Windows Remove Program function. One of those two methods should be used prior to the cleanup utility being run and prefer the built in uninstaller.
My inference is that it sounds to me like your original install did not go well. Yes, there are many accounts of your problem in the pages of this Forum from other users. There also have been various suggested solutions. The only solution that I am aware of that has worked for some but not all of these reported issues is an uninstall/reinstall thus my recommendation. I do have another suggestion here, when you do the reinstall make certain that you disable any antivirus application running on your system, I know that this step is always recommended with all installations and routinely ignored but in the case TI one must follow this step. Additionally, firewalls can prevent applications from functioning properly by blocking processes and they are notorious for not always letting you know that they have done so. You should insure that the TI executable run file and all services are allowed or in exception rules of your firewall.
If you are using Windows Firewall here is a link that discusses that feature as well as procedures for allowing application access through the firewall.

Thanks Enchantec. I used the Cleanup Utility as you suggested in your first post and didn't bother with the normal uninstaller. As recommended I checked the Registry keys before rebooting and found them to be clean. Rebooted and so far (it's always 'so far') so good!
It occurred to me that when I got this (new) laptop in December I used the ATIH 2015 install file that I bought when I originally upgraded and now remember being offered an update when I installed ATIH. Here's betting that that's where the problem lay. For this new installation I went to my Acronis account and downloaded the latest build (6525). I also paused Kaspersky's protection, as I now find that you advised, and so that also may be a candidate for being the culprit.
So it seems you were right on the money. Thank you for your help, I'm genuinely very grateful.
