Ordinal 241 Error

Thread needs solution

I downloaded the new version of True Image, and it installed w/o any error messages. But when I try to launch the product, I get the following message:

The ordinal 241 could not be located in the dynamic link library msi.dll

Anyone ever seen this, and know how to fix it?

Thanks.

What version of Windows is being used and is it 32 or 64 bits?

Do you have the latest Service Pack installed and Windows Updates current?

Have you tried doing a repair install of TI?

Have you tried redownloading the installer in case it was corrupted?

Hello,

MudCrab, thanks for the assistance.

John, let me help you.

We've never been informed about such error messages on the software launch. I may recommend you to uninstall Acronis True Image and then install it once again and check if the issue still persists.

If the software still errors out, please gather the following information and submit a support request:

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Ilya,

I did try both repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling, and had the same problem....perhaps also noteworthy is that the repair process failed. It would go almost to completion, and then the the colored progress bar would reverse itself and I'd get a message telling me that something had interrupted the repair process before it was complete and that I'd have to start again...happened every time I tried repair. The installation proceeds normally, and ends by telling me that the product was installed successfully...but when you try to launch is when the problem comes up. Yesterday during a chat session with support it was recommended that I obtain a fresh download and try again, on the assumption that the the original downloaded file was corrupt. I've obtained fresh downloads, but as the computer in question is not where I live (it's a computer for a club that I'm one of the officers for) it'll be a few days before I can see if the fresh download solves the problem. The computer is running Windows XP Professional, and I'm certain it's 32 bit. If I still have the problem I'll obtain the information that you've requested above.

Thanks,

John

 Hello John,

Thank you for posting.

I agree with MudCrab,  please make sure that the latest Windows updates and Service Pack are installed. If not, remove the program, install them and try to install the program from the scratch.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Oleg,

The computer in question does not have internet connectivity. How can I install the most current Windows updates and service packs without the ability to download? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John

Hello John,

Thank you for your response.

The most reliable way is to connect  temporary the computer to a network.

Otherwise, you should select and download the necessary files manually. I've never done this by myself, but according to the description, the procedure is rather complicated. Please see, for example, this page, I found it using Google search.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Hello John, and all involved.

I have the exact same problem.

I installed Acronis True Image on a computer running Windows XP which has never connected with the Internet.

I tried to run Acronis. It installed but I got the Error Message: True Image.exe Ordinal Not Found The Ordinal 241 could not be located in the dynamic link library msi.dll.

Oleg, the page you link to on "Tech Republic" suggests I either connect to the Internet and do all the updates or I figure out the one update I need, somehow find it, download it on another computer and then figure out how to install it on the computer in question. The first option will require either a very long ethernet cable to reach the router on the other side of the building or moving the computer (guess that might possibly be easier), and then an awful lot of time to download every update. The second option probably won't work; I don't know where to begin to find the update I need or how to find it or install it.

I guess very few Acronis users install it on machines that don't connect to the internet.

Does anyone here know (1) where I can find this "Ordinal 241" and (2) how to install it into this "dynamic link library msi.dll"? If not, I am going to need to move the computer (or buy that very long ethernet cable) and spend at least a day updating the machine.

I see a wonderful opportunity for a plug-in? or add-on? (I don't really understand the difference between the two) for Acronis True Image Home 2010 that contains this "Ordinal 241".

Any thoughts before I go start this very long project?

Thank you very much.

OK - I did the project: I wheeled the cart with the computer & it's peripherals down the hall, plugged the computer into the router, went on line and installed Windows XP Service Pack Two and about fifty-five Windows Updates. Oh, and AVG Free since who knows what snuck in when I was connected to the Internet.

So a few hours later and Acronis True Image Home 2010 works and I have my first backup.

I unplugged from the Internet and rolled the system back down the hall to its home.

Maybe there should be a "I don't connect to the Internet with this machine" option on Acronis True Image Home 2010 which would either install Ordinal 241 into dynamic link library msi.dll or make it so Ordinal 241, whatever it is, is not required.

Ordinal 241 is an entry point to msi.dll and it cannot be added without re-compiling the dll. Evidently, Acronis True Image relies upon software included in msi.dll added after the intial XP PRO.
