Outlook 2010 x64 backup

Thread needs solution

Using the current version of Acornis True Image Home 2010 on a Vista x64 box running the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010 and discovered that I can't backup the email using Acronis. Since installing this new version of Outlook, I no longer see Outlook as a selection for the email backups ... only Windows Mail and Windows Contacts. My previous client -- Outlook 2007 -- worked as expected.

How do you enable backup of Outlook 2010 x64 using Acronis?

Kenneth:

Office 2010 is currently only available to TechNet subscribers and the public release date isn't until June 15, so I doubt that Acronis has added Office 2010 to its list of applications yet.

In the mean time you can simply back up the folder C:\Users\Your_user_name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook which should contain the email database and all user settings. Or, if you create an image of your C: partition then you'll have everything, including the program itself.

BTW - Outlook 2010 is really nice; I've been using it all month and really like the changes.

Thanks for the tip. I thought that might be the case. Can't agree more about the new version. And for some of the issues in the 64-bit version, it seems to be a lot more stable when reviewing large archive files. The ability to capture screenshots and the cut-and-paste changes are definite time savers.

Right now I'm handling it as suggested. I treat it like 2007 and copy the files you mentioned above, along with the registry values at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook. I still do periodic backups of the C: partition, but I've found that a number of cases where a separate backup of the email configuration comes in handy.

Thanks again.
