Partition table change from legacy to UEFI

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Dealing with a Dell E7240 - Win 7 Pro - Legacy boot

I booted Acronis TI 2014 rescue from USB.
This external USB showed up into the UEFI section on the Dell bootable devices list from the "one time boot menu" (F12)

I took an image. So far, so good.

When I restored that image, the HDD doesn't boot into legacy (invalid partition table) but into UEFI mode. Why is that ? and how to set the partition table back to Legacy ?

Thanks

The DISKPART utility confirms the change into the partitionning

The source disk had 3 partitions (dell OEM, System Reserverd (System, Active, Primary), System (boot, Primary)

The target disk has 4 and none of them marked as active. The first one being only available through diskpart and doesn't show up into the graphic disk management.
This is totally unexpected.

Note that I'm not against UEFI (yet) but the current UEFI support by Dell E7240 is buggy. See http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19577102/20…

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I'm not seeking info on UEFI.
I'm pointing out an unexpected behaviour of Acronis True Image 2014.
I'm restoring a full backup of a 3 partitions disk (BIOS) and get a result of 4 partition (UEFI). This is flabbergasting.

It is understood that your intention is to restore to disk a Legacy bios bootable drive. The link I referenced was intended to provide some guidance to you in working with a UEFI bios. Example, following is a quoted paragraph directly from the linked article:

"Legacy BIOS Mode

Many computers with UEFI firmware will allow you to enable a legacy BIOS compatibility mode. In this mode, the UEFI firmware functions as a standard BIOS instead of UEFI firmware. This can help improve compatibility with older operating systems that weren’t designed with UEFI in mind — Windows 7, for example.

If your PC has this option, you’ll find it in the UEFI settings screen. You should only enable this if necessary."

There is additional information in the article that may prove beneficial as well. It is up to you if you choose to read it or not!
