Plugging in WD Passport causes TrueImage 2013 to hang
I have Acronis TrueImage Home on my main PC (TrueImage 2012) and my wife's HP laptop (TrueImage 2013). On both computers, Windows 7 detects my Western Digital My Passport 1 TB USB 3.0 drive and I can use it. But then if I try to start TrueImage with the drive plugged, in the front end does not come up. If I start TrueImage without the drive plugged in it will start and then when I plug in the drive, the blue spinning circle spins appears for about 15 minutes! If I try to use the drive to backup I get a read error saying that there are bad sectors (Failed to read data from the disk). So I used the Western Digital Lifeguard utility to check the drive and it checks out fine using the quick test and the extended eight hour test.
There was a post here that said I should use CHKDSK to scan the external drive and I did that. CHKDSK froze at the stage where it verifies the data. So this points to the disk but then I ran the WD lifeguard check and it passed.
In any case, why won't TrueImage even start up if the drive is plugged in? If there is something wrong with the drive, why does TrueImage even care if there are no backups using it?

Do you mean the Windows application of True Image won't start?
Or, are you trying to boot from the ATI2013 bootable Rescue Media on CD-R or USB flash drive?

Thanks for the replies. I received a new drive in the mail from Western Digital and Acronis True Image Home 2012 and 2013 are both working fine.
It was the Western Digital Passport drive.
