A problem with encrypted drive
hello all.
Im having a major problem here.
I have an internal secondary 2TB hard drive that is locked with acronis encryption. What happened:
In a previous windows install, i left Acronis at default settings. i noticed that it was locking folders for some reason but figgered it was safe.
Last night i had to reformat, and when i got windows installed, i found my 2TB drive not showing up in windows. BIOS sees it, recognizes it. Windows only sees it insomuch as to identify it as a foriegn file system and wont allow me to even see it in the drive list let alone access it.
I know the drive is not corrupt as i can see the files if i boot from the acronis recovery disc. But the recovery disc doesnt allow you to move files it seems.. only restore hdd images.
Any help i can get would be appreciated, as i have about 300gb on it and i *really really* would not want to lose it.
For the record, after i finished reinstalling, i did reinstall acronis hoping the system would correct itself. it has not.
on a side note - it would be nice if folder locking wasnt on by default. i didnt want it to begin with. secondly, where the h*** are the options to turn off non-stop backup and such? i really dont like it.

Greetings John MacDuff,
Thank you for taking the time to post on our Forum.
We sincerely apologise for such an outcome and the inconvenience caused on your side. Please rest assured that I will gladly help address and, in turn, resolve this issue at hand.
Just to confirm, and please do correct me, the 2 TB internal hard disk drive is detected but not usable under Windows, and not detected using Acronis True Image Home 2012. Furthermore, Recovery operations are enabled from the bootable Acronis Rescue Media, therefore the product itself does detect the 2 TB HDD from it's Linux-based environment, yet not from the Windows environment.
The issue seems to be with the Large Capacity hard disk not being detected under your operating system. However, to be certain, will you be so kind as to provide further details about:
- Your Windows operating system, the edition, the architecture (32-bit/64-bit)
- Previous Backup operations, if any, using Acronis True Image Home 2012 or any other versions in the past
- When you installed the 2 TB capacity hard disk, and the partitions you have created on it.
- Whether or not the hard disk was initialised as a Basic disk or a Dynamic disk
If you do have questions with the requested information above please do not hesitate to address them via a PM, and I will clarify them as soon as I can, to better help diagnose the issue.
It will be productive if you can capture a screenshot of your Disk Management window. To do this, right-click on My Computer; select the Manage option; from the sidebar, under the Storage menu item, Disk Management; on your keyboard tap Prt Sc, and post the screenshot attaching it to your following post.
Furthermore, please collect a System Report either using the Rescue Media, or from the Acronis True Image Home 2012 application itself under Windows, so that we can then analyse the logs to pinpoint the root cause of the issue.
For all of the above requirements, please kindly bear with us, as your efforts are as important as ours in determining and coming up with solutions to issues. I will happily further help you in collecting the information above should the need arise.
Please get back to me at your earliest convenience, and we may proceed from there.
