Problem with recover sector-by-sector TI2013

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have problem with TI2013: two weeks ago I create Full disk backup sector-by-sector of my laptop (beacue I use bitlocker and I need to send my laptop to service - battery problem). I verify backup and everything was ok. My SSD disk is 256GB. I choose strongest compression. I backup it to my NAS. The size of backup is:
-rw-r--r-- 1 wheel 69122492416 30 sty 16:46 T430s_Win8_full_b1_s1_v1.tib

Today I try to restore my disk from backup and I can't do it.
I choose Recover whole disks and partitions and select Sector-by-sector.
I choose Disk 1 from my backup.
Then I have: destination of Disk 1 -> I choose Disk 1 (the same from witch I create backup two weeks ago) and select Recover disk signature.
I click Next....
And nothing happens. I can not go to restoration method and start recover.

When I click in "What to recover" each partition separate + MBR and Track 0 (not disk1) I can select "Setting of Partitoin ...".
But I can't choose new location for last partition.

Can anybody help me?

To recover, you will need the recovery CD. Do not start the process from Windows.
Can you access your backup file from the recovery CD?
If not, you can try to copy it to a USB disk and connect directly to the computer.

I backup from recovery CD.
I try to restore from recovery CD too.

Now there is no operating system on disk, because I wipe all data from disk, before I send it to service.

From the CD, does the image still validate OK?

Are you able to explore and see the contents of the tib file when booted from the CD?

Yes, I validate it after I create the backup from TI boot CD.
Today I also validate the backup from TI boot CD.

When I choose to restore files and folders I can see and explore files on partitions which I do not crypt.

Marek M,

What I would try is the following. First select add new disk and select your SSD, This will reinitialize the disk. Then click restore (no need to select sector by sector). Restore the entire disk (Check the box at the disk level).

If that doesn't work, you should open a case with Acronis. You have a recovery problem. Support for recoveries remain free.

Pat L,

I already try to initialize my disk with MBR using "Add new disk". It doesn't work.

I found on http://kb.acronis.com/content/30775 (at 5th) that: "Make sure the size of the unallocated space is at least a little bigger than the size of the disk in the backup." But they wrote that this article applies to:
Acronis True Image Home 2012
Acronis True Image Home 2011.

I look's like the disk is too small for TI2013. When I choose each partition separate I can resize one partition with FS (boot partition which isn't crypted) and then I can restore last partition too (I can select new location). But I do not understand why TI2013 when restoring 1st partition leave 1MB free space before data. Maybe this is reason, why this disk is too small i recover last partition.

I think that the article in KB which I found on http://kb.acronis.com/content/30775 is true, and also applies to TI2013.

My partition table before backup look like:
1) Pri Windows Boot loader not crypted
2) Pri Windows 8 crypt with Bitlocker
3) Pri Linux /boot folder not crypted with GRUB
4) Log Linux Swap crypted
5) Log Linux / root crypted

When I try to restore disk, I was too small (the same disk!!!).

When I restore each partition (I checked every partition, not disk 1), I shrink the partition no 3 (linux /boot partiion with GRUB on it) by 8 MB and there was enought free space for the last partition. Everythink now work fine, but on the end of the disk I have now 4,34 MiB of free space (unallocated).

I think it is insane, that sector-by-sector backup can not be restored on the same disk. If there wouldn't be no partition which I could shrink, I wouldn't be able to restore my data.

It is weird. I am learning myself about this restore case as I was not aware of the requirement for the target unallocated space to be bigger than the backup.
