Problems with Disk and Partition Restore with Windows 8.1
Twice I have trashed the motherboard in a Dell 8700 computer running Windows 8.1 by doing a Disk and Partition Restore from within Windows 8.1. I am aware now that this should only be done by using the rescue disk, and will do this in the future. However, I would like to know if there would be added safety with a restore if the boot mode was changed from Safe UEFI mode to Legacy boot mode first. And then after the restore, always change the boot mode back to Safe UEFI boot mode. A second advantage to this is that one can leave the default mode for booting in Legacy Boot Mode to boot from the DVD/CD drive. In the Safe UEFI Boot Mode, the selection of Boot from the DVD/CD drive is one time only. I would appreciate thoughts on this concept. (Boot from the DVD/CD drive is necessary in order to use the rescue disk.)
