Questions on ATI Home and External SATA drive

Thread needs solution

Since I can't partition an internal hard drive without losing the computer's system recovery functionality I was thinking about getting ATI for C drive backup. Questions:
1. Can I use an eSATA to as the destination for an image backup? If so, any issues when restoring the image back to C drive?

2. If above is possible I would like to place some media and data files in the same eSATA. I.E. Create a separate folder each for image backup, media, and data.

3. Image Backup, Media, data folder all in ONE external SATA drive. This even possible?

Thanks for any information about this subject.

1- Yes. This is what I use. You have to try though. ATI uses low level drivers and you want to make sure your specific configuration works. In particular, on top of installing in windows, you want to make sure that the Acronis Recovery CD can see your disks and perform a restore.

2- Yes. An image backup creates a TIB file. This behaves like any other file on a disk.

3- Yes. See above.

Thanks, Pat L
I just wanted to confirm this before getting the Dell XPS 8300 and ATI.
I tried the Lenovo machines and partitioned them but then lost the system recovery functionality. I guess partitioning these machines somehow affects the hidden partition used for recovery thereby rendering it useless.

Now one of my options is to get the Dell and an external drive to store image backups and other files.

One more question:
If I create a folder for a drive image, can I put multiple images (in different stages of the c drive) in that same folder or do I create another one?

Thanks again for your feedback.

YOu can put multiple images: they are just TIB files.

A recovery partition is the very last resort: it erases everything and reset the computer to manufacturing state. Then you have to reinstall all your updates, programs and content. Keeping disk images is the way to go. Then the recovery partition is useless.
