RAID 0 to RAID 1 - TI Clone now not Working
Using many versions of TI, latest being 10 build 4940, I've cloned my main drives, striped as a RAID 0 (Intel ICHR 5) to another array, also RAID 0, this one on a Promise controller on the MB. Everything has been fine and worked well for quite some time.
I have now changed my main array to a mirror (RAID 1) and when I cloned to the Promise striped array, all went well but when the clone is booted (by itself) I get the 7b stop error.
Any ideas? I shouldn't have to make the clone as a mirror too should I? I borrowed TI 2010 and this too gave the BSOD.
Thanks.

Are the RAID drivers needed for the controller already installed?

I'm sorry Mudcrab, I don't quite understand.
I used my TI10 CD, as I always have, and the clone does not boot. The only difference is that the ICHR5 RAID array was changed from striping to mirror (0 to 1). The other array, a Promise FastTrak 378, has remained totally unchanged, operating as RAID 0, striped.
The only thing that has changed is my RAID type. All the hardware is the same.
Does the CD have to be re-created when a change like this is made?

Changing RAID levels on the same controller shouldn't cause any problems unless it requires a different driver.
Just so I understand correctly...
Original configuration:
- ICH5R - RAID 0
- Promise - RAID 0
- You could successfully boot Windows from either array.
New configuration:
- ICH5R - RAID 1
- Promise - RAID 0
- You cloned from the ICH5R RAID 1 to the Promise RAID 0 and the Promise RAID 0 won't boot.
---
Does the ICH5R RAID 1 boot successfully?
How did you make the change from RAID 0 to RAID 1? Did you reconfigure the drives and restore your RAID 0 image to the new RAID 1 setup?
Do you have both arrays active at the same time?
Do you switch between them using a BIOS boot menu?
Does the Windows installation on the ICH5R RAID 1 have the Promise RAID drivers installed in it? I'm assuming it does because you previously cloned it (when it was a RAID 0) to the Promise RAID.

Yes, correct. The ICH5R was the one in use, the Promise one just held the clones and was then powered down after cloning (and a boot check) by pulling the power cables from the two drives.

Again, correct. The Promise clone gets into the Windows logo before a 7b stop occurs. No mention of the exact fault but it most certainly is the boot-device one, and if that a RAID issue no doubt.

Perfectly - it is my everyday system.

I cloned to the Promise array, changed to larger drives on ICH5R, set it as a RAID 1 in BIOS. I let the RAID initialize but I did it in a manner so as to not to retain the system on them and then I used TI to clone back from the Promise onto the ICH5R. This system is running just fine - no issues at all.
MudCrab wrote:Do you have both arrays active at the same time?
No, never. I learned a long time ago not to do that, at least with a windows install and its clone together. I have found it odd that the old Ghost (floppy) would let both clones coexist perfectly well but when I went to Acronis (8 I think it was), I ran into that problem.
MudCrab wrote:Do you switch between them using a BIOS boot menu?
I usually just leave the Promise array active but with the drives disconnected all I have is to wait for the timeout when it tries to find the array elements. The only time I use the boot menu is when I have both arrays active w/ drives and I am booting the Acronis CD. The BIOS is set to boot from CD but I get nervous about having the clone present with its parent so I select the menu anyway.

Yes, if I put drives on it (non-clones) they work just fine. I can run them as 0 or 1 RAIDs or change the BIOS settings and use the two channels as individual IDE's.
I guess the next step is to try and clone one of my mirrored drives, all by itself, to the Promise array, and then clone it back (again, all alone on the SATA controller) and see if it boots. My other mirrored drive should be ok - that is if there is a problem I should be able to use it to restore the mirror array.
Thank you for your interest and time.
