Recover Operation Failed
I am trying to use ati 2013 (trial version) to restore from an older image created with ATI version 11. Full image. Using the 2013 boot CD, the image is on a HD externally connected via USB. The target is the HD in the computer (a Lenovo T60 laptop).
The CD boots fine, I go through all the menu option screens and everything fine. Then When I hit "proceed", it comes back in 1-2 seconds with "Recover Operation Failed". No explanation, nothing.
What does this mean and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Thanks. Yes I do mean version 11. Validation with the original Version 11 CD shows corrupted. Not sure why. The .tib file was validated originally, several years ago, when it was made. Is it possible to un-corrupt it or am I out of luck?
And yes I did have the external HD connected directly, no hub.

That message re. corruption means that TI can't properly read the file for some reason: could be corrupted; could be poor connection to the drive; could be a drive problem; etc.
Run chkdsk /r on that drive.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.
You could try copying the archive to your internal HD, and try validating it there.

The drive holding the image is fine, brand new WD. I did check it with several tools and no problems. I use it to store many different archive-type files and no problem with any of them (except this .tib).
The image file is 25GB so will take a while to copy it and check it on another drive. I will do that. Assuming it shows corrupted again, 1. Any way it can be salvaged? and 2. How does a file become corrupt? It's never been on any machine that was ever infected by a virus or malware, nor on any machine with a failing or defective HD. No file on any machine that I have owned was ever corrupted. Accidentally erased, yes. Corrupted, no.
Is it possible that Version 11 made a bad image and then erroneously validated it?
