Recovery disk won't boot on Asus P8H67-M Evo motherboard system.

Thread needs solution

I have a new system built on an ASUS P8H67-M Evo motherboard. After getting the system installed and running, I did several backups with ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE HOME 2011 with the Plus Pack (for support of Windows 7 64bit and a SSD drive).

I have created a recovery CD and downloaded the latest ISO recovery for the plus pack. Neither CD works to boot my system. I am currently working with ASUS as the system WILL BOOT from the Windows 7 64bit install DVD - so I know that I am selecting the drive in the Bios setup correctly.

After considerable research - I believe it's an issue with this motherboard / bios, but also with the use of linux for booting on the emergency disk.

I have a SUSE Linux install DVD 64 bit - that I can also boot - but I did see that it uses the EFI file structure boot loader similar to what I see on the WINDOWS 7 install disk. I have several other Linux distribution boot disk that DO NOT WORK.

Any suggestions to get a working boot DVD/CD with the Acronis tools for recovery?

Thank You.

Hello Phillip,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this.

Could you please let me know how exactly the bootable disk fails to boot? Could you describe your steps in detail please?

I would also appreciate if you could collect this specific report created with the bootable media - Generating Acronis System Report from Acronis Bootable Media without Booting into GUI.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi,
I have same problem as Phillip and i like to give more details on this error.
I am a system builder and only use Asus motherboards, because they are very stable.
I have a registered True image 2010 with plus pack and had already some problems before, mainly not finding hard disks.
Sometimes i could make an image with an older bootable TI.
The reason i reply on this post is, because it is not only the Motherboard P8H67-M Evo who has problems with the bootable device but all the motherboards of serie P8H from Asus. These series are brand new and have the Intel s1155 sockets.(for i5 and i7).
At this moment i have installed a P8H61-M LE/usb3 with windows 7 Professional and i can not make an image with the bootable device.
I can make a image with my installed Acronis true Image 2010 (build 7.160) On my own machine but this is no option to me.
As a computer technician i have to make recovery's at my customer's home's.

I went to my account at Acronis site and downloaded the latest bootable image and burned it to a cd.
Then i started up the computer in cd boot mode and started TI.
I got the selection screen and choose "Acronis True Image", the Acronis "bubble" shows up and then i get the small logo in the upper left corner.
Then TI shows a text like:"Loading, please wait..."
"Kernel Panic: not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown block (1,0)".

In a new boot-attempt, the loading is simular but at the end, the text flashes and is not readable but just after that, a windows appears and tells me, he can not find any hard-disk stations (is in dutch language).

The system report via the bootable disk is not working and shows me an error about "error while loading shared libraries: ...".

Earlier this day i was reading a (large) topic about this problem and it seems that this problem persists during time, when vendors continue make new sata drivers and Acronis was always having problems to catch up with updates.
In that topic was mentioned the Asus P7 Mb and at that time there was a switch between TI2010 and TI2011.
Some people bought the new TI2011 but was also not able to make a working bootable cd.
It looks like it happens again with the newer series P8H from Asus.

Till now, i was a big fan of TI, because it is fast booting and works fine (GI) but i constantly use the bootable device for making images and recovery's. For me it is a very important tool to work with.

At this point, i see no benifit in buying the TI2011, because in the first topic, Phillip tells us, TI2011 is not working with the Asus motherboards.

On my turn, i have to ask, if you have any suggestions to make this work?
Maybe a modifyed iso?

I can understand you want to sell your product but i am a bit wondering why Acronis doesn't build an option to insert a sata driver yourself.
Most people buy the program for home use but when they buy a new computer, they also have to buy a new TI witch doesn't work (bootable).
On one side, Acronis doesn't wan't that users ad drivers themselfs but promotes the use of Bart PE , etc. where you can import satadrivers.
For me, Bart PE is to slow to work with. You better change it to Hiren's boot cd, because it loads faster.

bruintje,

You could produce a WinPE-based recovery disk, since you have the Plus Pack. On a USB stick, the boot time is very fast, and if you produce it out a Win7 machine, you will get excellent driver support.
Using third party tools, you could customize your build to include other apps/plug-ins for your line of work.

Hi,
I tried your suggestion but i can't make the winpe on my flash drive.
I still having an error telling, i can't make a iso .
I reinstalled True image and plus plack but it doesn't help a thing.

I went for a creation of a Winpe boot flash drive via fora but there i have a problem too.
At one site there is an installation explained, where i can start the program Pstart.exe (is a GUI to start programs) after booting winpe.
The cd boots but the program will not start, so i am stuck there to.

On other hand i find it strange, you give a solution that is partly based on software that is not from Acronis itselfs.
I would expext, that you inform your software experts to make a new iso with the latest drivers, so the existing sofware would be upgraded.
I hope you understand that, at this moment, it is no use to buy the True image 2011 with plus package because they doesn't support the new drivers also. You have to realize that a simple computeruser would go for your product to make an image of his system and then to find out, that program doesn't support his diskdrivers. Most pc users are not able to work with software like Windows AIK, because it takes to many steps to fix things. That customer expects a product that is working perfectly.

For me, i need a bootable cd from Acronis (true image) that can work with the diskdrivers from Asus, because i only use this brand for the computers i build. I simply could shut this conversation but till now, i was very pleased with this product, because of the startup speed and simplicity of the software.
So, i hope you can give me a solution that is better then the winpe build. Maybe via sending a new iso with the drivers from Asus?

You see, I am not an Acronis employee, but just a user. Your request makes sense, but you have to address Acronis support directly.

You should be able to produce the ISO regardless of where you will put it.

Maybe this will help? http://www.tomsguide.com/us/winpe-winre-bootable,review-1191.html

Hi Pat,
I am sorry, i didn't noticed the difference about you and The moderator.
My first post was a reply to Anton, who is an Acronis Moderator as an aswer to Phillip, who opened this post.

I will try out the links you posted and let you know if things works.

Afraid I have been quite busy and did not return to forum until today. The moderator requested an ACRONIS report - which I am attaching. However, since I can't boot on ANY kind of recovery disk - I can't include a report from the standalone version. ASUS seems to think I may have a problem with the southbridge or bios chip, so I may end up exchanging the motherboard for the third time.

However, since I can still boot from the Windows 7 64bit Install DVD - and a SUSE 11 Install DVD - I believe the boot process for the Acronis products could be improved to provide the same support. It all has to do with the correct EFI directory structure and boot files.

At any rate, when I say the system won't boot - it will not boot - period. No error messages or any other indication of booting. No CD/DVD activity lights on the drive- no noises from the drive to indicate drive activity. I have a completely black screen and it just sits.

The bios scans the ODD drives on boot - and if it sees a bootable EFI partition on the disk - it will display UEFI: drive name in the boot options displayed when I use the F8 key on boot. When I select this UEFI: option it will attempt to boot from that drive - in the case of WINDOWS 7 64bit - the drive starts working and it boots successfully.

So far, that is the only way I have been able to boot from the DVD. I have not been able to boot from USB flash drive, WIN PE, BART PE, or any other type of recovery CD that I have found - including the ASUS utility CD that came with the system.

Thank You

Hi Phillip,

Do i understand correctly you had to change your motherboard for the third time? Once could always but 3 times?
The Windows system starts up fine but not starting the recovery disk from Acronis?

It looks like your MB can not work with the recovery disk but the error can be the disk itselfs.
I had problems too with this Asus MB series (read earlier) with Acronis disks not booting.
Also problems making winpe cd's but without results.
Meanwhile i had an email conversation with the moderator and he sended me a iso from the new TI2011 trial).
I burned the iso and tryed this on the Asus P8H61-M LE/usb3 and i could make an new image from this Motherboard.
The moderator asked for reports too, if it would not work but there was no need because the disk works for me.

The only thing i have to do is buy a new True Image 2011 because the trial version does not support recovery making.

1. I have an open case with ASUS waiting for an RMA to replace the motherboard a third time. ASUS seems to be sure the MB is defective in some way.
2. I have several other systems - and I have tested various recovery disks on those systems to make sure there is no issues with the media itself or how it was made. The CDs or DVDs work on other systems - just not on the latest board. I have another system based on an ASUS board that works just fine.
3. As outlined in a seperate message to you - the ISO you gave me does not work on my system. Thank you for the try anyway.

I know my status shows as beginner - but I have over 30 years experience as computer professional and have been working with ASUS and ACRONIS. My system can not boot from the ASUS utilities disk - and it should be able to from what ASUS said - so it would seem appropriate for them to replace the motherboard until I can get a system that will boot. At the same time - I am pointing out to ACRONIS since they have a RECOVERY process/cd it could be made more bullet proof and useful if they provided more boot options such as EFI if there is no MBR boot option which seems to be my current state.

Thanks

Phillip,

The 2012 version is supposed to support UEFI boot and GPT disk support.

I hope this is the right place for this... I burned a recovery CD but it won't boot. It gets as far as displaying the "Loading..." message and the message has some junk characters following it. Thereafter, nothing ever happens... I had this problem with many earlier versions of ATIH (I'm on 14 now) but then it settled down and worked. Now it's stopped. Again. Is there an image of a recovery disk that actually works?

Thanks.

Hi Jason,

You kicked an old treath but i hope i can give you an answer.
After this posts, i had this problem again with a later version.
It was a problem with the uefi bios 'es from Asus notebooks.
On the internet, i found a tip on how to modify the bootable cd to make this all work again.
Unfortinutly, i lost this info after a crash of my computer.

As a new attempt to fix this, i installed the TI2014 trail.
This verion worked well and i bought this version and am still working with it now.
The people from Acronis Support told me in the mail earlier, that i better could buy the English version because this version is always the first version with full new updates.
My native language is Dutch and these versions are much later available with new drivers then the Engish one.

To make a correct bootable cd, you have to do this from the software of Acronis itself.
Downloading it from internet is not always working.

I used to have problems with creating images from Asus Computers and notebooks (notebooks, because of changing bios to uefi), but since i used the AI2014, i have no issues anymore. My bootable cd of True image works fine on every computer.
The bootable usb stick gives problems some times but this is more about computers can not handle bootable usb sticks.
