Recovery Failure

I backed up the entire hard drive on a new Lenovo L512. I needed to restore the C partition. After validating the archive, the restore was reported as successful, but the system wouldn't boot. No error message, just a blinking cursor.

I restored the entire hard drive and that was successful and the sytem booted. However, I then needed to restore a data partition (D partition) that was created after the whole drive backup. The restore was reported as successful, but the system would no longer boot; same problem as when the C partition was restored.

Advice?
