Recurring "Failed to open (initialize) the computer" error.

Thread needs solution

What is this recurring "Failed to open (initialize) the computer" error?

How do I fix it? Do I have to use The Cleanup Utility? http://kb.acronis.com/content/24545
I have Acronis Disk Director installed; I don't want that to get clobbered.

And I also know my online backup subscription has expired, I don't wish to subscribe to Acronis Online Backup, so I don't need another error message everyday. How do I stop that error message?

Hello N2,

Thank you for opening the thread regarding this issue.

The issue is related to the snapapi drivers, and should get fixed by installing the drivers update from this KB article. Could you please run the update, and let us know if the issue was solved?

Let us know if you need any assistance, we will be glad to help.

Thank you.

Same problem: I am on build 6154. I updated the snapapi drivers as mentioned above snapapi.dll dated 2/15/2007.

Still get:
Failed to open (initialize) the computer.
Failed to initialize the snapshot manager library. (0x100005)
Tag = 0x8D5BF87C202E8715
Unknown status. (0x9)

I have AcronisInfo.zip file.

Hello Gene,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to have you with us.

This is one outdated dll. I assume that your machine has some leftovers from the previous version installation. Have you tried to run a Clean up as mentioned in the article?

  1. Run Acronis True Image Home 2012 Cleanup Utility (see Acronis True Image Home 2012 Cleanup Utility).
  2. Reinstall Acronis True Image Home 2012.

If you did, and the issue remains, please send me the Acronis Info output via PM.

Let me know if you have additional questions, I will be glad to help.

Thank you.

That is v640, and I get:

I'm currently on v651:

Should I downgrade my currently installed version of SnapAPI ?

I previously updated the SnapAPI because my USB drives were not getting recognized, per http://kb.acronis.com/content/26062

Hi N2,

No, in this case let's check the logs for more details. Could you please send me Acronis Info?

Thank you.

Hello Gene,

Thank you for finding time to contact me directly, I appreciate it.

Unfortunately the file you've sent got blocked, I assume due to its size. I've sent you a link to the FTP account I've created for you.

Please also let me know whether you've tried to install the SnapAPI driver I've also sent you via PM.

Thank you.

I think I'm good for now. To install the SnapAPI driver, I had to uninstall and Clean ATIH.
So, installed the API, then ATIH 2012 again and no error messages AND have a good image backup.
Did not reinstall Plus Pack.
