recycle.bin

Thread needs solution

my index says I should have a recycle bin in my C drive but I can't find it....therefore I can't list it as an exclusion from my image. I know I should remember to clean it out before I image but I forget most of the time and other times I am not even around when the image starts. I am wondering if it like hiberfil and pagefile is automatically excluded. If not I wonder if I can simply list c:\recycle.bin as an exclusion and that will take care of it. Can you give me some input on this and lead me to a solution. Thanks a million.

Depending on what version of win you have, the directory might be called Recycle Bin or Recycler.

You probably need to set in File and Folders options, not to hide hidden and system folders, of which the recycle bin is one. Then you can verify the location of the directory so that you can correctly list it in the exclusion list. Be sure that this is what you want to do. The recycle bin is included in a backup because some folks want to be able to restore a backup so that they can restore an accidentally deleted file.

Just as a PS to the above. I am running windows 7 and I spent quite a bit of time looking for the recycle.bin file. Not sure why it is hidden but it certainly seems it is.

On my W7, C:\$Recycle.Bin is a protected system file (not just hidden) and locked. You could try excluding $Recycle.Bin in Acronis (not sure if it would exclude it or not) but I otherwise wouldn't mess with it. It no doubt is hidden, and a Protected System File, for a reason.

Well I unchecked hidden files and found it...and it has a small padlock attached to it's icon which I take to mean it is locked. Not sure what ATI2012 would do with it but I guess I will make an image and find out. Also there is a place to place an X in front of hidden files and also system files. I definetely don't want to exclude those so despite the fact that recycle is a hidden file I think I will pass on that. I guess you can ignore all this as I will just image and find our what will happen now that I have listed it as an exclusion. Thanks Scott I appeciate your help.

Microsoft decide using computers wasn't complicated enough so, in Vista and w7, MS decided to change locations for all kinds of stuff and then made shortcuts to make it look to users and programs like the old locations more-or-less still were being used.

On FAT file systems (old windows systems), it is located in Drive:\RECYCLED. In the NTFS filesystem (Windows 2000, XP, NT) it is Drive:\RECYCLER. On Windows Vista and Windows 7 it is Drive:\$Recycle.Bin folder.

I believe you have to have system rights-- a higher level than admin rights.

Yo can google for lots of tips on how to do this, such as

but I can't vouch for how helpful they are.
