Regarding Incremental backups

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis TI 2014 and have a hypothetical question.

Let us say, I have these images: FULL, Incr 1, Incr 2, Incr 3, etc. Can I delete all the Increment backups, except the FULL one (I want to keep that one), of course, and start from scratch to add a new incremental backup that encompasses Incr 1, 2, and 3 all in one? Would that save me storage space? This way, I will have just one incremental backup file.

Thanks.

Charles, you could try doing what you are suggesting but you would then need to do a validation for your backup task if you are intending to create a further incremental backup based on the same full backup.

The best way would be to create a new full backup to capture everything exactly as it is now then delete the whole old backup version chain (full plus all incrementals) and gain storage space in that way.  You can do the deletion automatically if you use the automatic cleanup option to 'Store no more than 1 recent version chains' which will create the new backup then delete the old files.  Note: this assumes that your backup scheme is set to create a new full backup and not just create a new incremental file in the current chain.
