[RESOLVED] move raid1 array on mech drives to ssd's

Thread needs solution

Here is what I am trying to do. I have 2 500gb seagate mech. drives in a raid 1 array. I would like to install 2 256 OCZ Agility 4 drives in raid 1 and move everything over without having to re install the operating system. I am using a Dell Precision M6500 with Win. 7 pro. 64 bit. True image 2012 with plus pack. I have 88gb's of data on my seagate drives. Not sure how to do this. Break the array and install one ssd and clone to it is one idea I had or can I transfer a backup I made of my raid array to the new ssd's? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Issue resolved here.

If you have a software RAID 1, you are out of luck. If you have a hardware RAID 1 (something you set up in the BIOS, not in Windows), then you have a chance. With a RAID 1, you could try to break the RAID, clone the remaining drive and hope that the RAID 1 will rebuild with the new disks.

The key thing is whether the Acronis recovery CD can see your RAID as a single volume.

If no, you will have to upgrade to the Plus Pack to produce a WinPE based recovery CD.
Then, or if yes, follow the instructions here: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/31073#comment-96363

Sorry I should have mentioned I am using Intel Rapid Storage ver. 10.1. Thanks for your help.

Try your recovery CD and let us know how it goes.

It worked!! Here was the process. I went into the bios and deleted the raid 1 array. Then I removed my secondary hard disk replaced it with a ssd and booted from the acronis cd I created. Went into tools and selected add a new drive. After the drive was added I cloned my data over to the ssd drive. After completion I shut down and moved the ssd which I had just cloned, to the primary slot inside my laptop. Not sure this was necessary but It seemed logical to me after very little sleep and too much coffee. Booted up into windows and after another restart for loading the drivers for the new ssd, I went into the Intel Rapid storage software and built a Raid 0 array( wanted speed instead of safety this time). After this completed, my array was listed correctly at 487gb, but disk management showed my second ssd as unallocated space. I used partition magic to merge the partitions and that was that. Probably not the perfect way to do this but it worked, and man what an improvement. My hard drives went from a 5.0 to a 7.6 in windows performance index. Thanks again
