[Resolved] Rescue CD does not work, unable to restore my backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I’m using Acronis True Image 11 Home.

Recently, the hard disk drive in my notebook broke. I got a new one and tried to restore the acronis backup image I made onto an external USB hard disk drive before. However, after installing Acronis on the Windows installation which came with my new hard disk and chosing "restore", the computer rebooted and the only message I get is "operating system missing".

Then I tried to use the rescue CD which I created, but the only message I get from that is: "Acronis loader: No configuration file present".

I read online that there also is a syslinux based rescue CD, but I am unable to find a download link in the "My products & downloads" section. Could you help me with that please?

Thanks!
Best regards,
Michael

To anyone listening, always test your boot cd before relying on backups.

RE linux, whether you start a restore from within windows or the booCD, in each case ati uses linux. From within ati, it uses the boot manager to reboot with linux. If you can restart your machine to boot into windows, do that, then (once the boot manager is back to normal) try the bootCD.

Your harddisk came with windows installed? I'm curious, how could the drivers be installed on the disk without the hardware? Was it imaged by the vendor of your PC?

In any event, you can log into acronis.com, go to product updates and download a copy of the iso for a bootcd (you have to have registered your serial number). Sometimes that downloadable iso for bootcd uses a diff loader and somewhat diff drivers than the one made by creating it with ati. So it's worth a try. IF that doesn't work, you should probably contact Chat for tech support directly from acronis.

I can not boot windows on my machine currently, since apparently True Image destroyed the bootloader.

I just gave the laptop to my dealer and got it back with a new hard disk drive and a freshly installed copy of windows. I guess they do use images :).

So this is the part with which I’m having trouble. When selecting Product Updates I see a long list of downloads, but which one precisely is the one I have to chose for getting the ISO? Searching for ISO doesn’t yield any result. I can see a few entries saying "universal restore", but they are for version 9 of True Image and I use version 11. Are they compatible? Am I missing some download?

Thanks!

You need to click on the one labelled "bootable media". It is the iso file which must be downloaded and burnt to CD as an image.

This is for the version 11. It is not the same as version 2011.

Thanks for this instruction. However, I don’t have that tab. A screenshot is attached.

Contact one of the Acronis moderators and perhaps they can provide a link for a German version.

Hello,

Anton sent me a link to an ISO image in private. The image worked and I was able to restore my data from the external hard disk drive.

Thanks!
