restore Acronis backup to new virtual machine

Thread needs solution

I've got Acronis True Image 2015 backups of my Windows 7 workstation. I've had a hardware failure and have different hardware to restore the machine to.

Is it possible to restore my Acronis backup to a new VMware Workstation 8 virtual computer (instead of restoring to different hardware)? I found a knowledgebase article about doing this with Acronis 11. Can it still be done? How would I do it?

Yes, but the VMware VM will be looking like new hardware anyway. You could also convert the TIB file to VHD files, the use third party tools to convert the VHD file to VMDK files.

Very confusing that I can't find anything that converts Acronis 15 TIB files to VHD. The VMware standalone converter program converts .tib files -- but not Acronis version 15. Other tools require Windows Ultimate. So a few clues here, but still nothing that works.

You could try to perform a universal restore...
