Restore after system failure

Thread needs solution

Situation:

I am facing an entire system restore after Win 10's latest update (KB4056892) has rendered startup impossible with an error message of Inaccessible Boot Device. The latest restoration point temporarily fixes that and the system works fine after restoration until the next bootup when KB4056892 tries to install again and the error messages process is repeated. Dell's detailed diagnostics show nothing wrong with computer. Microsoft's Automatic Repair and Diagnosis could not find any problem. Same results when booting with an Acronis Rescue Disk or Windows Rescue Disk. Microsoft technicians have now reinstalled Win 10 Pro, and I still have the same problem. But what is worse I now have no restoration points. I still have another session with Microsoft, but it looks like deep trouble.

Since completely resetting Win 10 will destroy the programs, I desperately need to restore because I no longer have installation disks for many programs, including Acronis 2015.

Questions:

All that being said (sorry about that):

1 I have Acronis 2015 incremental and differential backups on separate external drives. If worse comes to worse how can I restore everything, including the operating system...maybe on a new hard drive (although the hard drive shows to be OK)?

2 If I reinstall Win 10 from another source how can I restore everything except the operating system?

3 The only actual Acronis disk I have is for 2012. Can I download 2015 (on another computer) from Acronis and reinstall it on the affected one? Right now Acronis Rescue Disk is not usable because of the boot errors.

4 Would I be better off buying Acronis 2018 to do this?

Sorry about all the verbosity, but I am in a real dilemma.

Many thanks for any suggestions

Dick, please see the following webpages in reference to the problem with KB4056892 causing inaccessible boot device for some types of processor:

How to temporarily prevent a Windows Update from reinstalling in Windows 10

With regards to the ATIH 2015 installer, you should be able to download the final full installer for this version from your Acronis account, and also you can download a CD image of Rescue Media (Linux version) from the same download page of your Acronis account.

In order to recover your backup images (incremental or differential) then these need to be found by the Rescue Media along with the initial Full backup for the same version chain(s), where ideally they would normally all be on the same backup drive rather on different drives.

You shouldn't need to buy ATIH 2018 in order to perform this recovery unless you want to take advantage of any of the other / new features / functions that this brings.
