Restore backed up MBR hard drive to UEFI GPT formatted Drive for Win 8
I have the 2013 Plus pack and have created a WinPE/Acronis recovery disc.
I have a system that has a UEFI BIOS, but is currently configured with standard MBR formatted hard drive. I would like to convert this system to UEFI/GPT. If I convert the hard drive (reformat) to GPT, will I be able to restore the drive using the Acronis backup from the MBR formatted drive?

Thanks, I've given up on UEFI on the particular machine. I've tried installing Win 8 Pro 64 bit and Win 7 Home 64 bit (UEFI) and in both cases on the first reboot I get an error and neither Win 8 or Win 7 can repair it. However, with an MBR formatted disc (the same disc) it works fine.
The Acronis Linux version rescue media disc will boot but all I get is garbage on the screen (i've tried Linux version rescue discs from both 2012 and 2013 and they are the same). I downloaded Ubuntu Linux and created a bootable disc and booted with this on the PC (run Ubuntu from disc) and it works OK. I have a WinPE/Acronis rescue disc and it loads OK and I'm able to backup/restore or run the untilities and either format the drive for MBR or GPT OK.
The error that Win 8 displays is "Your PC needs to be repaired. The OS Couldn't be loaded because the kernal is missing or contains errors. File:\windows\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe Error code 0xc0000221". This happens on the first reboot during the Win 8 install. I let Win 8 delete partitions and then reformat the drive (with the four partitions) and then install. I've also flashed the BIOS and tried several times. The BIOS has an option to "restore UEFI defaults" and I've tried that. I've given up as my thought is there is either a BIOS or motherboard hardware problems.
The PC is one I built. It has a Z77 Professional Fatal1ty motherboard, i5 3550 CPU. 8GB RAM, a 750GB WD hard drive, no expansion cards. It is a backup for my recording studio PC.
