Restore on DELL XPS 8500 Win 7 Home Premium (64bit) resulted in fatal crash

Thread needs solution

Installed ATIH2012 on new XPS 8500 system along with Windows updates and my favourite apps - updated to latest ATIH version - backed up C drive, validated and decided to test a restore. After the restore began it crashed catastrophically, trashing the C drive.

After a while the DELL Datasafe application kicked in and created an emergency recovery backup which contained a number of recovered files (scandisk style) and proceeded to take me through the factory image restore process. The XPS system is a high end model with SSD and Intel acceleration technology.

Any ideas what may have caused this? I am not keen on using Acronis again without understanding what went wrong in case it happens again.

What type of restore were you doing? Disk/partition or files/folders? Where you doing the restore from within Windows or from the Acronis Rescue Media?

Did you create a full disk mode backup (including all partitions and MBR), or did you just backup the C: partition?
