Restore to a different drive problem

Thread needs solution

I used to be able to restore a saved Windows 7 bootable partiton to a new drive and then boot from that drive either while the old drive was still connected and/or boot from the new drive after removing the original drive. In either case the new booted drive would become the C: drive and it would boot just fine with or with out the old drive present.

Now with TI 2011 if I boot from the new drive while the old drive is still connected, the new drive asumes a new drive letter (not C:) but the old drive is n ow C: and is also used for the system. If I remove the old drive, the new drive boots to the point of login page and then it either quits and reboots or it trys to create new desktop that it never completes.

What I am doing wrong?

Palo,
You have been lucky. If both drives have the same operating system, when you want to change the boot drive, you will have to disconnect the data cable to the other drive and select the proper drive in the bios. After booting the first time, then you can shutdown and attach the cable and keep the same boot drive.

When you want to switch boot drives again, again, you will have to disconnect the data cable on the old drive and the boot with the new drive. After boot, then you can reattached the old drive for use.

I know its a pain, but I believe this to be a Windows issue and not an Acronis issue because this is the procedure many of us have had to use for years.

The problem is that both drives have the same disk signature. You may get around this issue by changing the disk signature but then you will have to do a repair install on TI Home as it bases its tasks on the disk signature.

I have found the easiest way to work this system is to have two removable caddies as the top disk holders and then I can remove or switch disks very easily.
