Restore of GPT Disk no longer allows Signature Recovery?

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

I have been a long time user of TI. I am currently running TI 2014 Premium, build 6688 on Windows 8.1 64bit

I have had cause recently to restore a large RAID-0 volume after adding an additional disk to the array. The backup had been performed as a Full 'Disk' backup. After re-building the array to include the additional disk, I started TI 2014 from a Windows 8.1 WinPE boot disk. This was also build 6688. I selected to restore the entire disk including the partition and MRB-Track-0.

However when presented with the next screen allowing me to select a location for the restore, the "Restore Disk Signature" option was NOT shown. This check box always used to be displayed whenever you selected to restore an entire disk, of either MBR or GPT layout.

I proceeded to restore the volume anyway, however when completed I found a couple of issues:

1) TI 2014 had not recovered the Disk Signature or GUID-Id. Windows identified the disk as new and assigned a different Drive ID. This NEVER used to occur.
2) The volume had been restored such that it did not make use of the additional space on the array. Previous versions of TI 2014 would expand the partition to fill the new disk when performing a full 'Disk' restore.
3) The available space reported by Windows for the volume was incorrect.

What has happened? Why has this behavoiur changed?

I deleted the array and restarted the restore using TI 2013 Build 5551 from a Windows 8 WinPE environment which I still had on CD. This worked exactly as I had expected. The "Restore Disk Signature" checkbox was shown and following the successful restore the volume occupied the entire array. The disk type was still GPT and everything was OK.

Looks like I will be installing an older version of TI 2014, until I find one that behaves like it used to!

Cheers.

Further to this issue.

I have now tried builds 6673 and 6614 of TI 2014 Premium, and neither of them offer the 'Restore Disk Signature' option for GPT disks. Perhaps I am mistaken and it was TI 2013 that used to always offer this option?

If I choose an MBR type disk, then the 'Restore Disk Signature' checkbox appears. But for any GPT disk it is not available. How is one supposed to restore a GPT Disk and retain it's GUID ID so that it does not appear as a 'new' disk to Windows. Additionally, why has the restoration of GPT disks changed so that they will not expand to occupy available space on a new volume?

Cheers.
