Restore True Image 2013 (plus pack) to new computer and different OS

Thread needs solution

I have been running True Image 2013 (with the Plus Pack) for a couple of years. I am running it on a Dell Optiplex workstation with Windows 7. I have 30 days of Image Backups on an external USB drive (5 TB). My hard disk has just failed. I can't access it at all. If I buy a new computer e/w WIndows 10, can I use my True Image Rescue Media to restore one of my images to the new computer? I prefer to stay with the Windows 7 operating system anyway. I don't know if there would be a conflict between the operating systems. Thanks.

Dan, welcome to these user forums.

The obvious suggestion to make here is to obtain and install a new replacement hard disk drive for your Dell Optiplex computer as you can use your ATIH 2013 bootable Rescue Media to restore your backup from your external USB drive to that new disk and be back up and running.

If you try to restore your backup to a new / different computer then you will run into a number of different problems.

First, you would need to use the Acronis Universal Restore bootable media in order to prepare your restored backup to run on that new computer as you will be restoring to different hardware.

Second, that new computer must be able to boot into Windows in the same boot mode as your current system uses, i.e. I would suspect that your current system may use BIOS / MBR to boot whereas most new systems will boot using UEFI / Secure Boot and possibly use GPT partitions.

Third, unless you have a full Retail license for Windows 7 then you will face activation issues as OEM Windows licenses are not transferable between systems, i.e. a Dell branded version of Windows 7 is licensed only for the original system it was first activated on.

Steve, thanks for the quick response. I will get a new hard drive!
