Restore a windows 8 image with true image 2013

Thread needs solution

I have true image with plus pack and I made an image of one pc and are not trying to restore universal on another pc, but it doesn't work. I have tried to make a recovery on the first pc also and the MBR got overwritten.. Or at least I can boot up again - even though I only choise to recover C:\

Is there something special I have to do when I use true image 2013 in windows 8?

I have done those recovery like a million times in windows 7 without problems - an migrate also, but in windows 8 I keep getting problems.

Have anyone every done a recovery in windows 8?

Yes, I did already a couple of recoveries of my Win8 upgraded system. I always do recoveries from the recovery CD.

Can I ask why you always use the recovery cd? Is this because you're not confident the programme will work properly from within Win 8?

Doing backups from the Windows application is fine.
We prefer to do restores from the bootable Recovery Media, as its Linux-based environment means that Windows is not loaded. That means there are no worries about any locked files, etc.

I've done restores from the Windows application, to test it, and they worked fine. But, I think it's safer to do so from the bootable Recovery Media.

The product is designed to restore from Windows. There are a couple of points of failure, not linked specifically to Windows 8.

a) because of the way Linux enumerates disks in ways that can result in different assignment unpon reboot and throw off the pre-Windows environment. I have noticed that 2013 behaves much better there then, let's say, 2011.

b) additionally, when you choose to restore from Windows, ATI has to edit the boot records to enable the booting in its pre-Windows environment and I personally don't want to mess with these records.

I am pretty sure these reasons do NOT explain why success rate is much higher from the recovery CD, from experience on this forum.

Anyway, this is why I never do clones and restores from within Windows.

PS: Well I should not say "never". As I said, 2013 seems to be better. So recently I moved back from Windows 8 to Windows 7 to deactivate some sofware, then moved back to Win 8 to install and reactivate the software. I did everything from within Windows and it worked perfectly. Never say never...
