Hi,

1 - I have a PC with multiple hard drives, and when I select to backup the entire PC, does it include all the hard drives? I only want to backup the C drive.

2 - I made a backup only the C drive and all its partitions and then I attempted to do a test restore, but the hard drive would not boot, are those backups not bootable? I need to make a backup that can be restored to the hard drive in case of failure, but it must be able to boot.

Thanks for the help.

Edward,

If you select to backup the entire PC, then it will automatically select to include all installed hard drives - this may under some circumstances include external disk drives if these are seen by the OS as either fixed or non-removable.

If you want to only backup your Windows C:\ drive then in order for this to be bootable, you must also include the System Reserved partition which holds the Windows Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store.  To do this, you need to select Disks & Partitions in the Source selection panel, then ensure that you show the Full Partition List and not the Short Partition List, as the Full list will show you any additional hidden partitions that are required for the system to boot.

See more about this in the ATIH 2015 User Guide

In addition to what Steve mentioned (select entire disk and all partins on that disk using the "disks and paritions" backup method), when you boot your offline bootable recovery media -make sure you boot it the same way your OS was installed (legacy if you have a legacy/MBR OS install or UEFI if you have a UEFI/GPT OS install).  This will determine how Acronis formats the paritions when the data is recovered.

BIOS Mode - See if Windows Boot in UEFI or Legacy Mode
