Restored drive is not bootable - RESOLVED

Thread needs solution

It occurred to me that the hardware in the down computer could be the cause, and that's indeed the case. The restored drive did boot on the "big" computer. Further testing indicates it's the other drive on the same cable in the down computer that has failed. This posting is from the now restored computer.

Quick sanity check, please: using ATI 2009, I created an image of my system this January. That drive failed a few days ago.

The image is on a SATA drive on another system that also has a CD drive. On that system, I made a recovery CD, then mounted a different, known-good drive of exactly the same model number as the failed drive. Once booted onto the recovery CD, I selected the backup from the SATA drive, and MBR/T0 was checked, as well as "restore disk serial number" or something similar at the bottom of the selection dialog. I selected the target drive and verify, and proceeded. The operation was successful.

The restored drive does not boot. What have I missed, or what am I doing wrong?

More details:

I've tried this twice as follows:
(1)
(a) mount blank drive in operational computer with SATA drive containing .TIBs (blank replaced CDrom)
(b) run ATIH 2009 locally, select TIB, select partition and MBR/t0, select blank drive, and go
(c) on Restart, the loader did it's thing, successfully,
(d) when that drive is mounted into its computer, it fails with some BIOS message about the drive not being bootable, insert bootable media and hit return.

(2)
(a) make a Rescue CD on functioning computer with SATA drive
(b) remove operational drive, replace with blank drive
(c) boot Rescue CD
(d) select TIB, full disk with MBR/t0
(e) check something about a drive serial number or signature
(f) select blank drive as destination
(g) select verify backup
(h) Proceed
(i) restored drive is not bootable in its system - same message

A couple of things to check:
- BIOS settings: since you have multiple drives in the computer, is the BIOS set to boot on the disk it is supposed to?
- are you sure you backed up all partitions on your disk? Is there any hidden or OEM partition?
