Restore/recover system from multiple .tib files?

Thread needs solution

Guys,

I've searched Google, read Grover's guides, and searched through this forum, and still can't find the answer to my dilemma.

I have a buddy who did a TI 11 Home backup to what apparently was a FAT32 formatted ext. hard drive. I say apparently because the backup resulted in eight .tib files, all the same date, and sequential in time, with seven files approx. 4.2GB in size, and the eighth approx. 708K.

My question is this. He needs to do a restore. Where do we point the restore routine, to the first of the .tib files, or the last? Will TI know to start with one of the files, and then move on to the next until the restore is complete? Or, would he be better off copying the eight files to DVDs and starting the restore from them?

TIA,

Jeff

Hello Jeffrey,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.

This is not an issue. The thing is that maximum file size on FAT32 is 4 Gb, that is why the backup archive is split. In order to avoid archive splitting you should format drive to NTFS file system.

For information on how to convert FAT disks to NTFS, please see Microsoft TechNet article: How to Convert FAT Disks to NTFS

You can choose any .tib file from the set in order to restore the whole image.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Dimitry, thanks for the reply. I'm sure this is an instance of his ext. hard drive coming w/ FAT32 formatting, and I assumed it was NTFS.

We'll give the restore a go this morning, and I'll let you know how it comes out. FWIW I did find some good info on your support site for recovering folders/files w/ their original dates, something that has always "vexed" me w/ ATI.
