Restoring from backup....

Thread needs solution

I am unable to restore from a file backup at boot time. I am wondering if I install Windows 7, and acronis to a new machine, if I could restore the system on the new machine and have it be exactly how it was at the time of the backup...

thoughts?

John,

In general, you can restore a machine (with a new disk, or on the same disk) with a Disk and Partition backup. Not with a File backup (in ATI terminology)

Restoring to a new machine requires the Plus Pack to get the Universal Restore feature added to ATI's recovery disk.

If your question is about using a file backup to restore to a machine, you are headed for trouble if you restore the Windows folder, Programs folder and the hidden programdata and appdata folders.
If you just restore content files, you are OK.

If you decide to go for trouble, you should copy all your files on your disk, then use the Win7 to repair install the system.
