Restoring Outlook Express email

Thread needs solution

I have been backing up Outlook Express email daily and wanted to restore all email back to my in-box from a previous backup dated Oct 1st. I go to the archive and select the backup file- right click- then click RESTORE. It appears based on the destination that Acronis is going to restore the emails back from that date into my in box. However, once the restore is complete, I still cannot see where these emails have been restored to my in box. WHat am I missing here. Please help.
Thanks!

Jane

Hello Jane,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

The e-mails should be restored to the same place where they were located previously. It is not clear, are you able to see your e-mails? Or is the e-mail box empty?

Thank you.

I have the same problem as Jane Hixon. The mailbox was empty. I have had to reload my entire system and successfully resorted my data from the .tib incremental back up files. However when I try and restore my emails although I get a restore successful message there are no restored emails in my mailbox. In trying to see where my messages might be restored to I tried to find the folder where Outlook Express was storing messages. I could not see this folder that Outlook Express said it was using, even when I chose to show system files and hidden files, so I have now changed the storage files to another location, where it shows my recent emails downloaded today. I still need all my backed up emails from the Acronis back up file.

Hello,

Sarah, let me assist you with the issue.

I may recommend you to restore your old mail manually.

Please do the following:

1. Double-click your archive .tib file to explore it and navigate to the following Outlook folder:

\Program Files\Outlook Express\<your_username>\Mail

-or-

\windows_directory\Profiles\<your_username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail

2. Copy .idx and .mbx files from the archive to your system drive to the same location. Note that Outlook Express should be closed during that operation.

After that all your old email should be accessible in Outlook Express.

Please reply to this thread is you need any further assistance.

Thank you.

I am having the same problem locating the dbx files in the backup archive. The default path for outlook express is the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{CC47E863-5AE1-4028-928D-DAB7CCF618FD}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

When I drill down through this path in the backup archive, I find the {CC47E863-5AE1-4028-928D-DAB7CCF618FD} folder but it appears to be empty.

Is mail store elsewhere?

Hi,

I had this problem a couple of years back & I am surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.

It said the email backup was completed successfully, so I believed it.
On the first occasion I used an email Backup in anger to Restore my emails, it said it was successful, but no Restore actually took place.
The process was happening so quick it made me suspicious, so I checked the backup file & found it was empty.

The advise I was given here on the Forum by another member was only trust the Full Backup Cloning process.
This I have used successfully on many occasions.

When it comes to emails I use the "File Backup" option & select the Identities folder manually myself, the path is outlined above, the emails will then Backup successfully & can be Restored when needed.

Another disgrace is the Operating Systems Selector in the Disk Director Program that continually gets corrupted.
They have had years to sort this out & their fixes have not worked for me.
I have had to buy another OS program that reliably works.

I hope this helps
